Rapid City Set List
Just got back from the concert in Rapid City! Gord and the band were in fine form as usual! I thought Gord's voice was strong last night in Sioux Falls but I believe he sounded even stronger tonight! He seemed pretty relaxed and seemed to be having a good time!
John, you are right...Ring Neck Loon was awesome! It was a real treat to hear it in concert! Wish you could have been there! Gord's voice was especially strong on this one and on If Children Had Wings.
The acoustics are really nice in the theater, sharp and clear. The concert was mostly sold out from what I could tell. Couldn't see the back part of the balcony but looked like most of the seats were filled. Gord commented on the new building addition and seemed pleased with it! Here is the set list:
1) Cotton Jenny
2) Carefree Highway
3) Sea of Tranquility
4) 14 Karat Gold
5) Never To Close
6) Painter Passing Through
7) Let It Ride
8) Rainy Day People
9) Shadows
10)Beautiful
11)The Watchman's Gone
12)Ribbon of Darkness
13)Sundown
14)Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
Intermission
16) Triangle
17) Hangdog Hotel Room
18) Ring Neck Loon
19) Don Quixote
20) If Children Had Wings
21) Waiting For You
22) If You Could Read My Mind
23) Make Way For The Lady
24) Restless
25) Baby Step Back
26) Pony Man
27) Early Morning Rain

28) Old Dan's Records

Re: Rapid City Set List
glad the show went on!
there was a little problem prior to the concert:
Small fire breaks out at SD civic center
Associated Press - October 3, 2009 6:05 PM ET
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - Staff at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City are cleaning up from a small electrical fire.
An electrical panel controlling the auditorium's spotlights sparked the fire late Friday or early Saturday. The sprinkler system quickly extinguished the blaze.
The electrical panel will have to be replaced. There was no other damage from the fire, but the carpets sustained water damage.
Saturday night's performance by singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot is expected to go an scheduled.

Re: Rapid City Set List
I didn't even know anything about the fire until this morning when I heard it in the news. Didn't see any damage in the theater, at least from where I was. Sounds like it was contained in the electrical panel. Thankfully it wasn't any worse!

Re: Rapid City Set List
Dakota Rose,
my family and I were there in Row G and as luck would have it, a drunken woman who repeatedly told me her husband was a co-owner of a bar in Sturgis, sat beside me. I am sure you heard her constant hooping and hollering throughout the concert. She was constantly yapping and only slowed down when I told her I paid money to listen to Gord sing. Even her husband couldn’t get her to shut up.
As far as the concert goes, Gord was in better voice as compared to the last time we saw in back in Minneapolis in Sept of 2002. His range was much better than I was expecting to hear and the band was always perfect as to be expected.
I did check for available ticket the day before the concert and the only thing left were seats in the rear of the balcony. There were empty seats scattered on the mail floor but apparently they were no shows. Oh well, their loss.
I was happy to hear a wide variety of songs and the different background and lights added to the enchantment of the evening. My only complaint was ‘only’ hearing 28 songs J
After the concert, we walked around the side of the building. Earlier in the evening, I scoped things out and saw the semi, bus and two Cadillacs so I figured that is where Gord would leave.
Only two other women were waiting with us. I visited with the semi driver and he was telling me how this was the most strenuous schedule he could remember. When all was done, he then had to return to Toronto to drop off the band’s equipment. I asked him if this was the smallest group he had seen waiting for Gord and he said there are some nights when there is no one waiting. That surprised me.
I then visited with the electrician and he told me we were lucky to even have a concert. He worked through the day and was able to get two spotlights working. Aluminum wiring and aluminum fuse panel are a bad combination and they were lucky it tripped the sprinkler system. He would be busy for the next few days fixing the old panels.
Mike, Terry and Barry came out and after a brief chat, jumped in a car and headed out. About 10 minutes later, Rick came out and started up the car. We know Gord would be coming out soon.
Sure enough, the door opened and Gord exited the building. There must not have been any back stage greeting because less than 30 minutes after the concert, he was leaving. The two ladies got pictures with him and had him sign their tickets. My son than approached him.
I made up an 8 x 10 poster of the pictures I had taken of Gord and my younger son at previous concerts. This dates back to Winnipeg in 1999(?) and two other concerts in Minneapolis.
Gord personalized it for Thomas and looked at the pictures on it with interest. Thomas has grown quite a bit in the past 10 years but Gord hasn’t changed a bit (other than not having a mustache). We thanked him for a fine concert and he and Rick headed for the car.
Other than the drunk seating beside me, the concert was much better than I expected. I had seen some of the recent YouTube videos of Gord signing and I was expecting his range to be limited. I was very surprised to hear the range and quality of his voice. I was really expecting this to be my last concert, wanting to remember what that was. Instead I got a stronger performance than expected and can’t wait until he is in the area again next year.

Re: Rapid City Set List
Nothing worse than having a drunk person sitting next to you @ a concert.
If I would have been in your place, I would have tried to moved down to those empty seats you saw. Explaining your situation to the usher, Im almost certain they would have agreed, and then maybe they would have gone up the balcony, to remove that drunken person from the theatre.
Happy to hear your review, (no mustache eh) ! I myself think the mustache looks really good on him...
Anyway Dave, thanks for sharing your night w/ the board.

I was wrong. After looking closely at the pictures, he does still have his mustache. It is closely shaved and light colored so it was easy to miss it.

I heard on an interview with Peter Gzowski a few years back, that Gzowski commented to him "you look pretty fit, except you know what? should you have a mustache?"
Gord said "I, I can't", "You see, I am one of these guys, I got a mustache, I can't stop playing with it. Either I'm licking it with my tongue, or I am pulling it with my fingers or I am doing something......" Maybe that's why he doesn't have that much of one these days. How's his hair?
