Planes, Names, #s, Places & Automobiles?
first, a BIG congrats to Gord and the guys for enduring the tour
it's been great reading reviews throughout 2008 coming from so many members
many light-hearted popular games/lists/quizzes have intertwined (and hopefully not stolen any Concert thunder) themselves amongst the more 'current Gord events' threads
we now have quite a variety of lists that may be nice to have as a link off the main page (similar to photos, etc) for any newcomers

Re: Planes, Names, #s, Places & Automobiles?
jj - good thinking... one thought came to mind for me in your exploration of the prospect of other themes, which , I might add you admirably are not "proprietary about" - I mean, as a compliment , you are not, and people are not, racing to the thought of "I know, I want my OWN list thread ,. so I will come up with my OWN theme... yeaa..that's the ticket.brew-hahahahaha
The short read, cyptic, but discernable, is simply in reading the coloured words below for Oh,Linda's possible dibs she spoke of in changin too if/when food played out...I sort of think until she's back she has dibs in a way...
No, I'm bob-on the benchmark and the bubble is on, though perhaps frozen allready cause I don't have the denatured-alcohol-winter bulls-eye bubble-out yet..lol.. , too.... just some levity, with one kind reminder while Oh,Linda is gone and will be returning on the 3rd of Nov. as I recall she posted in incredible/edible lyrics -
lol remember that whammo----.... burn your hands toy ? - like Fright Factory - where you pour toxic waste on best not know why it glows in the dark on the shrunken head and spider molds....no wait thats vacuu-form.....
incredible -edibles were some rather unlikely chemical mixture that roughly resembled Geocel (no relative of mine, in trouble..lol) , but were intended to be edible Gummi-worm ?? sorta "Kandy" - it was so far off the periodic chart in isotopes; , they had to spell candy wrong to avoid FDA food name entanglements for structural adhesive...lol
OK - Oh,Lindas! -dibs- of sorts on something - was the point - she played smart and fast in lyrics quizzers and more, and in the process thought of another idea - I won't call it an offshoot of the lyrics thread game, as it may have resembled in planning talk, but rather this Q: "who can lay claim as 'their's' on Gord's lyrics...but Gord himself?" -
so her edible thread was of open sharing format very generously thought out, and in turn , or perhaps out of respect for this fact, while "hers for tallying/hosting" - like "mine" - I don't like even saying it that way ("mine"), again lol -how 'bout like THE thread I help by processing clues and ques and Kalamazoo answers - Hey JJ I am prety sure that is in Geo names to add....its probably there...well anyway, just asking the Q's and answering/sorting/tracking the answers as "fit or no fit" the clue.
Back to Oh,Linda's! "dibs" - thoughts to allready "do" in her incredible edibles lyrics - ostensibly in the same thread, just a theme shift, were at least these few discussed by her on a Sunday after jogging, after a little dialogue back and forth on ideas for and urgin her to continue, but HER thoughts remained, for when food played out:
1 ."Critters" - - hearing that, while totally unlke "Daisy-Mae" (not Doo lol) in The Beverly Hillbillies, I can't help but recall that Daisy-Mae called all animals.beasts.aquatics.. "critters" and while Linda's much more eloquent and well-read/spoken,(than the "character" that actress played Daisy) Oh, Linda thought this one to shift to
2. and (maybe) a suggestion to her at the time: shift her theme if necessary to " references to the words - sea(s), the ocean(s), the lakes, rivers, water features to a carto. - allthough I know and so does she that there might be some overlap into geographic names in that....no she meant just the word(s) like 'sailing on the high seas', as I recall, allthoug they could be extracted from a geo feature name reference, like taking "River' out of Mckenzie River. Sh wanted te word "river" if I remember the discussion that day....
I wish I could remember the other few, but I am sure she would characteristically show open and non-proprietary ways on those as well, any , really, - but I'd leave that opinion of hers a bit presumptuos of me to guess !
I just had this dream/nightmare of 2000 corfid memmers all creating 6-response (you never know....!!!!) theme quizzes as theirs, - as rightfully they should be able to do.... make no mistake of what I say.... just surely the coordinated effort as jj is discussing sounds like the smart route..
I simply would suggest humbly that until she's back - the one's I remember here saying she would shift to when/if food (we agreed it was inevitable - as it is, as are all lyrics thread self-limiting, I think....soon as all songs are done in lyrics quizzers and more.... that, if not sooner, will peter-out too...
SO jj - not at all an admonition to you, I applaud your suggestion of thinkin' on themes for lists....only a quiet reminder of Linda's considered plans as spoken of so far - out of my pervue to say anymore 'til she's back, only trying to be a gentleman as are you jj in your handling... thanks
i'll get off my smooshed shoe box now.....lol no offense meant

Re: Planes, Names, #s, Places & Automobiles?
hi Steve...I dont' follow...these are all group efforts and all still in progress (if Wayne is missing any, even though quite busy, I am sure he would like an e-mail pointing out any oversights)
I had never seen the food them idea before Linda suggest it but it may have been done here or on the newsgroup (there have been tons of fun threads there over the years, very creative, witty folks!)
as far as games (like your latest stroke of genius!) go, you must search the archives for the fun Picture Song Title game (by Stationmaster...is that jessi jo?) or perhaps you remember it...i think it got 1000+ replies and he did every GL song title, no?
the Numbers list most recently was regarding the Deal or no Deal (Borderstone/rm) but I saw a GL clock that Nancy made where she must have gone through a similar and earlier numbers effort (1-12)
just like jokes, I figure most things/punchlines have been done/heard before but they return in a new form
so Names, Numbers, Food, Places...i think Rivers are places, no?
btw, it was Elly May you're referring to...Daisy was more of a cow, no?

hey, GeoSteve - I think that Kalamazoo is not on Wayne's list (I sure got dizzy looking for it, lol) ...I could be embarrassing myself here but what tune is that from? it looks like Wayne has made an effort to keep the Lightfoot Geography list up to date ( eg. he added Couchiching when Harmony was released)
oh, I found the Name that Song Title (based on Pictures) game from years ago... thought you'd get a kick out of a Thread Flashback if you and some others hadn't been around at that time...I believe some picture links are now broken for some reason:
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread...hlight=picture
ok, let's start a list of all songs where Gord uses a simile or metaphor (kidding)

oh my, now i follow...sorry for my oversight...you are saying that linda already suggested coming up with other lists (note: I don't read every post or thread in detail, who could possibly do so) and we should wait til she returns to determine which to go for, right?
I actually can't think of any unexplored broad themes.....btw, if i'm not around when she's back, please don't wait for my surfacing before starting any lists...I'll get over it, lol
as a recap, I was suggesting making a link to some of these listings/Themes so lyric buffs or new members don't have to search all over...similar to my suggestion to make links to Gord youtube performances or CBC archives available off the Home page, take it or leave it
lastly, Steve, you say there are more songs to knock off on your fun-filled and wonderful lyrics game...I didn;'t realize you were stroking them off your database...how many more to go? I just want to know when I'll be able to resume counting sheep at night rather than internally filtering through lyrics as I nod off and even during slumbers...haven't had a decent might's sleep in over 2 months, lol

Re: Planes, Names, #s, Places & Automobiles?
Hi jj and Happy Halloween !
I got yer first message on 'I don't follow ya, Steve ! and new you'd misread, got tied up, re-read - saw your post:
Quote:

and yes, all I meant boils down to really ONE gentleman's request - to wait til Oh,Linda at least has her input, 'cause she said she likely would shift thems from food to "Critters" - when/if food petered-out.. Thats all I meant- and I see you got that on 2nd read.....OK.... And you are right - all conceivable themes are fair fodder for everyone IMO, and it was only that one 'Critters' I thought would just be ..neighborly.. to see if she was still going to shift to that..... at least have input on the healthy corfid COMMUNITY-approach as you point out well, JJ. I'm with ya' ..
Kalamazoo ? - I gotta find it now myself lol.... had it going thru my head that day....now i can't remember the song ! Will search the data base monster.
I've not fed IT the rarities or un-released et al yet.... it has digested, stemmed, conflated, and attributed only the "Gord's 20 major studio releases '65 - 2008 thus far - his contractual comittment to UA and Warner-Reprise > then Rhino,Linus, et al like High 5! and a Live new album I heard tell of - not Reno - though I DID hear Reno came out on Audio-only CD as well as the DVD...
And... I think you asked of the status of the Lyrics Quizzers and more ! Thread of "mine" - everone's , and lad... are ye askin' me to actualy bring updates to you in here while yer bein' fanned with PALM fronds ? lol..j/k
I AM actually trying to maintain a "bottom-line" in their as possible almost every day to state where we are at and whats left..... at Ron's suggest we 'nuked' ....stealth - bummmer.. - relatively NEW song, too. Just hard..... AND I put ole' Yeller - Q154 - out of her misery at your request jj - and ITS not a rarity or old one either ! - check it out ! you'll B surprised !
It sound like some words from Is 'There Anyone Home' in some spots, fragmented, slightly different- just similar - as another member posted somewhere ....'ghosts' seem a prevalent vehicle for Lightfoot to deliver the concept of Lost love unrequitted...looking...ghosts in every room, ghosts in IYCRMM, ghosts, Ghosts in 'ON the High Seas' GHOST GHOSTS ! ITS HALLOWEEN !1! AAAAGHHLOL....
Oh - that reminds me - the other refernece to ask Linda on ' seas' et al - it does not overlap with Geographic feature named entities, she simply considered the suggested shift to Lightfoot's fondness in his music to simply the WORDS of 'SEA, Ocean, River, etc' - NOT "McKenzie River' et al.... just where can the words 'river, ocean, sea' be found- like food types... as a possible theme shift in her incredible edibles lyrics thread.... allthough. she really only expressed politely the interest IN, (not dibs, in her words) the shift to CRITTERS as a theme when food petered out maybe
That the ONLY theme I think it would be right neighborly of us to hear her thoughts on for the melting pot when she returns I think the 3rd of 4th... Thats all. She may blow off any personal interest in it..... and you are right JJ, - the community corfid fair claim to collectively all themes.... that only, in my mind, did not ameliorate us of a simple courtesy.... I did not explain that well, and I know you KNOW what I meant no right ? lol...... AAAAAHHGG HALLOWEEN ! lol have a good one, BTW everyone
Thanks jj, hope that answers your Q's - and check out bottom line. or close now - shows only R3 as in the que clue.

Re: Planes, Names, #s, Places & Automobiles?
jj - a glowering error I think on my part - could of sworn I'd seen Kalamazoo in place names in a song... not sure I did not... but invoking the logic of the 'Precept of Occam's Razor' - this is the simplest explanation where I likely saw it - in Linda's Kalamazoo concert - trip planned, and review- well-done if u have not read it: the 'Kalamazoo evidence'

Last night’s concert in Kalamazoo was fantastic! Absolutely fantastic. The only other concert of his I attended was 20 years ago, so to be here after all those years was very special indeed. I’m excited to share a few highlights with all of you. Best of all was the opportunity I had to meet

yep'....spit-DING in the Brass spittoon on the barroom floor..."I rekin' thats the one"
If so, sorry for false geo name alarm, jj

Re: Planes, Names, #s, Places & Automobiles?
Hi there. Back from my vacation and catching up on numerous posts I missed while away. I like the idea of having a link to the themes as suggested by jj. Unless you keep up every day, which is sometimes difficult, it's hard to know what's been submitted to date.
As for any theme shift, I did float out the critters theme way back as an initial idea for a new thread. I made a last minute switch to edible lyrics instead and off we went with that as a new theme. So we can always intro critters (jj I like your Gord's Ark description!!) or any other theme if the group would like but I didn't have any immediate plans to do that. Although now that I think about it, responses to the edible lyrics thread would suggest we've all enjoyed our four-course meal, complete with dessert and after-dinner drinks and we're deep in a food coma . Perhaps we should move on...
I think the broader suggestion jj put forth to add links from the home page to lyrics-themed entries like quizzers, edible lyrics, et all is a good one. It would be a nice way for all of us, new members included, to jump in and participate with a ready reference at hand. Thanks for asking for my input.

Re: Planes, Names, #s, Places & Automobiles?
good stuff, linda...welcome back
i was thinking of a pretty short list themed on time...we've done the number thing (first i saw of that was when Nanci created the really cool GL clock as a raffle prize/fundraiser...then b and rm extended it for the Deal or No Deal bid (i still haven't seen a leggy model deliver a suitcase to B yet on tv!)...but how about songs referencing specific years, month names or days of the week?
eg)
back in '39 (from drink your glasses emplty)
May I (song title,...ok, that's a bit of a stretch)
Saturday clothes (song title)
oh, btw...how could we forget "Aunt Bea" for the Name list?

In case you didn't see it elsewhere , Welcome back, too, Linda ! - I held 'em at bay on critter's 'til we knew if you were gonna switch to that, if I remembered you right, as a "maybe" for ya - sorta with dibs .
jj I too DO like the broader approach - tying things into a navigable bundle for newbies or just a status check on your preference of the day as far as ....games of sorts go...
Theme possibilities - I like your ideas jj, I'dd add: elemental (no fungus shooey tuff) - earth/soil , wind, rock, snow, rain, fog, dew, FIRE, wood, that sort of de-ZEN'd type of themes - not the fung shuey - fungus shooey - I can't spell it lol... but similar...lol
BTW - thinking of linking to others - ..10 NEW ONES UP IN LYRICS QUIZZERS !

Speakin' 'a your Aunt Bea, did you say you saw her in a MINK coat ?noooooo
I declare'a - I wonder if'n Gordon Meredith (I always think of "Dandy" Don Meredith from football player to sports announcer when I hear Gord's middle name) so I wonder if GML...watched the-'The Andy Griffith Show'? - when he was 'tseeer in 65 he'd of been 27..unlikely...add 20 years, or subtract 15, and maybe so, but 27 - he was probably planting and reaping harvest as they say in the farming busniess.....with combines....and alll...lol
dear old Aunt Bea... up dancing til two or three...we've all got dates dancing all night to the to the 78's....git out all the old Old Dan(ce)(s) Records....lol....
mini 'Back To Mayberry' - brought to you by Geo Steve !
Maybe in Opie's genius mind - proven later as a director.... thought things like this for scripts way back when..... ? -
"Now,now, Opie.... you'll are just gonna HAVE to wait, unTIL, Aunt Bea finishes cookin that cake....dont you be a-licking the beaters now, Opie,.....he kneels down condescendingly eye-to eye with Opie and blows cigarette smoke in his face - its just rehearsal anyway... "you see Opie, its kinda like this... If Thelma Sue..were to cook dinner for Barney, do you think it would be polite for him to start eating, bfeore she's done cookin ?" - "Well gee, Pa,you mean like the other day when we went by the market and you grabbed an apple out of the barrel outside ? Isn't that the same thing Pa ?" (Opie tilts his head like a German Shepherd tryin to understand its owners arcane remark - in Dog language anyway...)..
to which Andy - "Anj" - replies. coughs, stammers, and admits "wELL NO Opie, err..uhmm...welllll, I rekin you are RIGHT on that one.... Why I shoulda known bettaa ..., and, first thing in the mornin.... we're gonnan walk to see Mr Drucker in the market - and PAYYYY him right-fair for that apple... you see, Opie,....even adults make hasty mistakes absent mindedly doing harmless things sometimes....and ever since the Dawn of Time Opie.../" -
Opie interrupts"So Pa, if I understand you're 'grown-up analogy, using the apple as an allegorical symbol of temptation , your attempt to ameliorate yourself of genuine guilt, wrong-doing, and travesty of Man's law... is by writin' it off as an 'absent-minded mistake', whereas the lickin the beaters from the frosting...was a form of THEFT?...THAT seems DISPARATE and inconsistent in your application of what I think we are makin' a mockery of Pa, is justice for the adults, is a different paradigm than justice for us Kids, is that what you mean Pa ?" - "...uhm...No,No, Opieeee, of COURSE not... well hang me if you didn't catch me in my own words there son, why I declare you are RIGHT, and we are going to go down to that new toy store they never show on the TV, and get you whatever you want...now how bout them APPLES ?" -
'sure Pa, (DEJECTED , SAD MUSIC STARTS PLAYIN ), but,, are you makin the common mistake parents do when they feel guilty over (being caught, pa..) in unjust treatment of their children, and application of a double standard by which different age groups must suffer varying admonishment and consequences by BUYING my forgiveness and affection with a toy ? -(thinking quick) 'cause thats OK - I want that new bat, ball and glove set they got, and those new adjustable-length metal skates, this one's reaaaally gonna cost ya Pa, I ain't kiddin around here...lemme call and check and see what you're Mayberry World MasterCard's balance is...( click-click on the fake 2-piece phone(.. besides Pa - its all just make-believe on TV - there won't really be any bills for it...'HELLO Clara - this Opie....-yeah, OPIE Bit**, get me Mastercard, Inc on this piece of sh** anachronistic phone anyway, RIGHT NOW" ... pause... ... -'cep I talked the producer into lettin me keep the skates, ball and glove and DRUMSET in exchange for editing his Screenplay - and sketching his story boards in crayon for the next 6 episodes on break earlier..., and you know what Pa ? I'm gonna grow up just like you Pa, real nice, fair, honest, and make 100x your salary Dad, no civil service for this boy, I'm gonna reap the whirlwind of all its worth in Movie-makin....reall BIG stiff...I'm gonna be RICH...and if your nice - I may give you a cameo or a walk-on... in a show, seeins how your type cast as a legal-related character actor, aren;t ya Pa ?
- Andy Griffith walks off the set to have a smoke - and mutters "how the
sh88 did he get so smart, with just 15 minutes a day of book learnin' by that tutor? Boys got pipe dreams for sure, the day a child actor makes 200 Million in a movie is the day I'll........" "wha...whats that Opie (holding his ears over a screaching noice) 'Nothin PA....snicker...its just feedback circular doppler action in this piece of sh88 Radio Sh88 bullhorn' - 'just finish yer smoke right NOW - PA... Mr. Griffith ? lets get crackin......turns away - 'Allright, quiet on the set...soon as Mr. Griffith deems to grace us with his presence- I will return to my metaphorical lesson of the day where everone's happy at the end... what a crock a sh88....he mutters, under the bullhorn.... its a livin....' lol...... I wonder some times...but in reality, if there was a Mayberry-like town with folk like that... a step-back near 60 years in time...I'd go... I LIKED that show...good values...a good father that reminded me of mine, less the accent is all.... what a dream of a town..I could liive there...if working for the Town or County, or State Burrough paid over...say $60k...lol...Mayberry?.....NOT.....
They could have made that set a real town for a ...amusement park of sorts...Like the Incline Village Poderosa Village - from Bonanza - the town set made complete....tourist trap...closed around '84 I read.... after a 17 yr run of that ole' show....
Whu did I write this, in this thread ? ..lol.. well the Aunt Bea caught my funny bone......and I aso wanted to make a few on-thread comments....
well dangit all if'n I cain't remember what they were....I'll have to chew on that one a while....
On-Thread - I do remember now a few things I mean to bring up besides nostalgia T,V, ...lol... - jj et al, I do also like the calendar months, days, time, etc references in Gord's songs, maybe even allowing in-direct =references to time, as an idea if it gets thin, quick, as in bsides the first and strongest strain of time named entitities eg 'Saturday Clothes', and I was stone cold sober, it was daylight in October - thats my first offical entry !...
I also like for an in-keeping with, and I think mentioned allready idea- if not. thow it in the hat - cars, references too, incl driving, the car, bus, plane, - thats what I remember - the thread name --lol dughhhhh oy - my fits entry -
This rented car never sent so far, but with each passing mile one more dream had ....turned to clay. - am (scuse the illicit refence ladies), cover your eyes- I thought when I first heard that song - with a Beavis and Butthead essential mentality or ack thereof at 15, I thought Gord was going to sing "I would gladly offer you my love in this rented car, in the back seat - meant to.........lol.
Pardon the lewd imagery - but you know how 14 yr old boys think.....now if I could only figure out how to think like a 15 yr old........
