What's the worst cover of a Lightfoot song you can imagine (or know of for real?) I don't know why but the idea of The Cowsills doing The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald makes me queasy <g>.

There was a hip hop\alternative group
that did a rap\rock version of "sundown"
a few years back. Pretty bad, although
I suppose it introduced some kids to Gordon.
I guess no matter how bad a remake is,
it still must be compliment to GL.
What do you think?

That version is by Elwood and it's not half bad.

That's easy no question the two parodies by John Valdy a.k.a. Dr. Dirty (Sundown and the Wreck)are as disgusting as you could imagine, If you ever have the misfortune to hear either of these make quite sure you are within pewking range of something commodious!!

True ... but he had better NEVER get near to any Gord song, as far as I'm concerned.
(I need a 'threatening' smilie... how do I get one of those?) LOL

No assumption of awfulness here but I just read of another cover album, including one of Gord's songs:
"Mavericks vocalist Raul Malo, and Nashville pals Pat Flynn, Rob Ickes, and Dave Pomeroy come together next week with their Nashville Acoustic Sessions album on CMH Records, covering Roy Orbison's “Blue Bayou,” Gordon Lightfoot's “Early Morning Rain,” The Louvin Brothers' “Great Atomic Power,” and other songs by Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Gram Parsons and Jimmie Rodgers… "

Good company to be in - hope they do it justice.

Raul Malo has an incredible voice! I've heard him do Blue Bayou in an acoustic song-circle once, and you would have sworn it was Roy Orbison. I think I might have to get this album

I know i may be in the minority, and Joveski will disagree! but as much as i love Dylan, i don't care for his version of "Early Morning Rain". Although Elvis' version is very nice, and Gord himself has mentioned it favourably. Incidentally, irish duo Foster and Allen do a very irish sounding "Song for a Winters Night", and make it sound like a different song! if you like that sort of thing!.....

I mentioned in my Borderstone Tapes thread that Olivia Newton-John covered,"If You Could Read My Mind" on her "Let Me Be There" Lp. It was either re-named or mistakenly titled<"If I could Read "Your" Mind". ONJ is a talented woman with an unforgettable voice (and is very beautiful on her LP covers!) but she never should have done this! It takes a deep brooding love song and turns it into an MOR DJ's worst nightmare! She's on key but off base for this selection. Sorry Olivia! I like you but leave the originals alone. Later!

Theres a station here in England called Magic FM which once played an awful lounge sounding version of "If You Could Read My Mind". It may have been Perry Como. To hear such a beautiful song drenched in strings and a choir is devastating!
