I've come up with an idea I hope will be kind of fun. Since it's not Gord related I have to put it here.
This game is simple,I'll put up the name of a singer and then tell me if you think it's their stage name or if it's their given name.
I'll take a certain number of votes and acept the majority as the overall answer. Then I'll reveal wheather it's true or not.
Okay, here's the first one!! > Christopher Cross. Real or stage? Vote now! Later!

Do you want us to say their real names?
I will say this first one is a stage name for now.

I'll go with stage name too. Some bell from way back in the past is ringing in my grey matter, but I can't quite place it yet.

Oh, and no, if we believe -- or know -- it to be a stage name then let's keep quiet and not spoil the fun for others who chime in late.
Please and thanks!

Djb,that's right...no one say if you actually know, one way or the other!! Just if you think it's "stage" or "given".
A few more votes and I'll let you in on it!
Later!

i think there was a band cris cross, i'll have to check with a niece...it doesn't work for me, neither does that marky mark, crap
hmm, i used that sailing tune for video track once, it gave me a new appreciation for it after trying to duck it in malls and grocery stores most of my recent life...last i saw this guy, he was singing Beech Boy harmonies, subbing for a dead guy

Okay,time for the answer.
We have 3 exact votes for stage and 1 (J.J.) for real name. Annie did a 1/2 & 1/2,which is not so much a vote as it is a bit of a give away,if you know Top 40 like I do.
Christopher Cross is...exactly what Annie said! His 1st name is real,"Cross" is just a catchy word someone at WB suggested. His real last name is Geppert. (I like it! )
Oh,J.J.,yes there was the teen rap duo Kris Kross from 1992 to 1996. In '92 they had a #1 hit with,"Jump" (No not Van Halen's) That lead to A DJ here in Phoenix making a joke about the 2 "Crosses" doing each other's music!
Way to go Station, djb and LSH! Okay next!
Englebert Humperdinck. Later!

If I recall correctly, its the singer's stage name, but actually is someone else's real name, some conductor or composer, I think. So apparently, someone CAN be that cruel to a baby.

I'll say EH is fake.
Mind you, I have a mental block with EH and Tom Jones, as I have a habit of confusing them either way.
I know, I know. Sorry.

Okay! I should've known that'd be too easy! Yes E.H.'s name isn't real. His real name is Arnold Dorsey. ..and yes! Someone was that cruel to a music producer as a baby! Poor kid!
Annie! Don't ruin the fun!! Let them be surprised! Sheesh!
Okay, here's #3! -Janis Ian- Been me! Later!

Oh yus engledick humperbert
and I always thought his real name was Gerry Dorsey but no Walter is correct for once
"Arnold George Dorsey gave the world's finest impersonation of Jerry Lewis - even Jerry
Lewis still thinks so - and was quickly dubbed Gerry Dorsey by his fans.
It became his professional stage name.
Gerry's manager suggested the new name Engelbert Humperdinck. It was just outrageous enough to be memorable. It would take a man with a secure self-image and sense of humor to pull it off.
And it was Humperdinck, not Elvis, who made famous the sideburns and flamboyant leather jumpsuits
So there you go

Okay, only 2 votes here and a nice bit of info. from John about good old Engle.
Stationmaster is correct in saying it's not real. Although Janis is her first name her real last name is "fink". No joke.
Ian is made from three letters in her first name. Way to go Station.!!
Okay next......Cyndi Lauper!

I'll question the transposition of the I and Y in Cyndi, but I will say the overall name is real.
