and red jacket...happy and smiling and having fun!
2nd song-jason-rainy day people (as it's pouring rain here ) great version.
3rd song - jacob-sundown - very unusual voice - and treatment-gord liked
this kid in rehearsal. he's been great with all of them..
4th song - shane - the way i feel - awesome...gord was grinning ear to ear.
i really like this kid.
canadian idol website should have video clips posted tomorrow...
#5-teresa - she was thrilled tomeeet gord-had him sign her guitar-gave him a
big hug.-Song For A Winter's Night-bit of a sarah mclachlan sound-very very
pretty voice.
#6-Kalan-seems to be crowd fave-young but incredible voice-IYCRMM- gord said
"it brings back things youdon't want to think about but you go ahead". kalan
was awesome.
Ronnie Hawkins was in the crowd. the kids were all very respectful and
thrilled tomeet Gord-I was very apprehensive about this whole thing but
thoroughly enjoyed it-these kids are talented!. tomorrow night there will be
a couple of group efforts at Lightfoot songs and they will be playing
instruments. good show-now i can go eat....

Is Lightfoot himself performing like Lionel Richie did?? Anyway I taped the show minus the commercials on VHS.
I thought Kalan had an amazing voice, like that one judge said I find hard to believe that deep of a voice is coming from such a young kid.
You could definetly tell Lightfoot had an impact on how these kids sang the songs, they didn't really stray too far from the original recordings.
Definetly liked the modern version of The Way I Feel... for that matter I have begun searching out the earlier stuff before Gord had a drummer and making my own drum tracks as the song goes on.

the Group of "idols" will be doing CRT.and Steel Rail Blues. Gord will appear but no mention of him singing.
from the IDOL website:
Toronto, Ontario (August 16, 2004) – For the first time ever on any Idol program anywhere, competitors on this Thursday's one-hour Canadian Idol results episode will accompany themselves on musical instruments, CTV announced today.
Airing live this Thursday, August 19 from 8 - 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, the six remaining competitors will not only sing but also play guitar, piano, bass, mandolin and fiddle together on the classic Gordon Lightfoot song "Canadian Railroad Trilogy." Canadian Idol is the first series out of over 25 Idol programs seen around the world in which competitors will play instruments.
"Canadian Idol is recognized as being one of the most innovative and successful Idol franchises in the world," said Susanne Boyce, CTV's President of Programming and Chair of CTV Media Group. "We're blessed with a group of competitors who are not only outstanding singers, but talented musicians as well. Thursday night's show will add another fantastic dimension to the Canadian Idol phenomenon."
Beginning this week, Canadian Idol's Thursday night results shows will expand to one hour. On Thursday's show, in which one of the six remaining competitors will be eliminated, Canadian Idol will continue this week's tribute to "The Music of Gordon Lightfoot." In addition to "Canadian Railroad Trilogy," the Top Six will also take to the stage to perform "Steel Rail Blues." Lightfoot, one of Canada's most revered musical icons, will make another rare television appearance on Thursday night's show.
Additionally, Thursday night's show features a performance by 2003 Canadian Idol finalist Billy Klippert and his band. Klippert will perform "Again" from his new, self-titled album.
Canadian Idol's remaining six finalists are: Jason Greeley, 27, Upper Island Cove, NL; Jacob Hoggard, 20, Abbotsford, BC; Elena Juatco, 19, Vancouver, BC; Kalan Porter, 18, Medicine Hat, AB; Theresa Sokyrka, 23, Saskatoon, SK and Shane Wiebe, 21, Abbotsford, BC.
Canadian Idol is Canada's most-watched television program, averaging more than 2 million viewers (2.06M, Wednesday nights) per episode (Source: BBM).

The show was great! I thought everyone did a good job putting their own spin on the songs. I liked Kalan and Jason a little more, they both did a great job. It was nice to see Gord on TV. He looked really happy and healthy tonight. He was grinning and laughing through each performance. I also saw a piece on CTV news where folks are talking about a Lightfoot comeback. Nice to hear! Can't wait for part two tomorrow night...

I like many of you were listening to Lightfoot long before it was considered "cool" to do so.

Oh wow. I just finished watching the clips. I have to agree with you jj. She showed me something new in lightfoot also. Both the girls did. Did you see GL's face after Teresa was done though. He was moved, and pleased.
They didn't show much of lightfoot though... tonight's show ought to be interesting. wonder if we'll get a clip from that.

what a drag, my thoughts last night:
Shane's was nice but lost it the second half (unlike Cowboy Junkies)... the guy looks better in denim than satin
Theresa, adorable but just a lesser rehash of Sarah's version, those backups were really irritating, she's great, i wanted more
Kalan, alot of songs of Gord's would have sealed it for you, but not this one ...i mean great voice but too much wimpering for me
Jacob's sounded a bit Dave Matthews-ish, convulsions, not for me
give me the Jesse Winchester version for real funky stuff
Jason, Gord warned you about getting extra pumped when you're out there in front of the audience, that pump must have inabled him to keep the low register for verses, transpose up a whole tone atleast and try sing it with feeling, not a grimace
Elena, ahhh, she actually gave me a version I hadn't heard before - keep that low voice going and forget the wailing, cool
too bad one has to go, some i would like to see perform for a night, others just a CD listen, others i dunno if enough variety
elena - could watch her perform for a whole evening
kalan - CD, but one day i could watch him for hours i'm sure
theresa - CD, i'd rather listen to her interviewed than watch perform
shane - CD for sure, i couldn't watch but i know tons who could
jacob - i think i'd like to just watch him perform (and not listen)
jason - i could watch him for a few sets if i was sipping pints
good job kids, cheers gordon..... jacob or jason should go home
>>>
oops, goodbye elena - i was wrong again ....but think they all do us and Gord proud

Just stumbled across this thread while doing a search.
I thought you guys might be interested to know that Shane Wiebe has released his debut CD (AWESOME CD!), and "The Way I Feel" is one of the songs on it. It's a excellent version of the song. That and Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" are the only two covers on the CD. The other 9 songs are originals (and all either written or co-written by Shane), and there are some excellent ones on there. If you're interested, you can purchase his CD through his official site - http://www.shanewiebe.info - and there are also 30-second samples of a few of the songs (not TWIF though), if you'd like to take a listen.
Shane has grown so much since Idol, and he puts on an amazing live show full of great music, a great voice, and lots of fun. His sense of humour, which sadly we didn't see too much of on Idol, shines through his live performances. And he has shown himself to be an incredible songwriter as well.
