Well, if you've ever seen a picture of Long John Silver, I think he had really long hair. I don't think he went to the barber too often, if at all. He may have even had a beard, thus negating the purpose of a barber entirely! And Gord's saying if there'd been *lady* barbers, hey, it wouldn't have been so bad, but, because Long John Silver set a precedent, no one else had to "be a martyr" and sit in the barber's chair. Anyway, that's my take on it...
Love it! It's a great song about the demise of a relationship over the other person cheating on him. Bards for centuries have been regaling the willing listener with sad songs about this topic. However, it took Gord to make it into a catchy tune, too!
