Jim Croce sings Song for a Winter's Night

Hello, I was watching the live dvd from Jim Croce, and in one of the segments, he and his wife Ingrid sing this song. Now did Gordon write this, or is it a standard. Unfortunately, don't get your hopes up. It's only a clip, but I'd like to figure out if he'd listened to Gord's music.

I remember back in high school, around 1974 I saw a movie about Jim Croce's life, and he and his wife sang this song. I'd never heard about it again. It made such a huge impact as i was a Lightfoot fan way back then and instantly recognized the song.

Gord did write it, as he says during a thunderstorm in Cleveland.

Sad to say it but I've never heard of Jim Croce. He sounds like a good guy. I like 'Song For A Winters Night'. To me, it's hard to wrong with that one.

Jim Croce was a wonderful singer/songwriter from the early 70s who died WAY too young in 1973 in a plane crash. Sigh. He was just hitting his stride and making a mark musically; many, if not most, of his songs were posthumous hits: Bad, Bad Leroy Brown; Time in a Bottle; Operator; I Got a Name;I'll Have to Say I Love You In a Song; Photographs and Memories; One Less Set of Footsteps; Lover's Cross; Workin' at the Car Wash Blues; You Don't Mess Around with Jim - did I miss any? He was a terrific writer who sang funny story songs and lovely ballads.

Incidentally on Jim's first album, "Facets" (1966) the first cut is Gord's "Steel Rail Blues".

Annie I know just how you feel! When I went to Gord's concert in Sept. in Orillia the KIDS (average age of 26) that I worked with on the ambulance had never heard of Gord. I would have had a stroke right there if it hadn't been for the fact that the KIDS would have been the ones rendering care. No offense to the younger crowd here, you are wise beyond your years since you are on the GL site!

I had seen an episode of Behind the Music a few years back where Ingrid Croce (Jim's wife) was interviewed. She talked about being friends with Gordon Lightfoot. His name was mentioned, along with several others, as one who would come over for jam sessions at the Croce's on a frequent basis.

I like Jim Croce but I am certainly not in the Geezerhood yet! DMD3,if you want a crash course in Jim Croce,look for the CD or Cassette called,"Photographs & Memories":The Best Of Jim Croce.
