Sunday Concert and the United Artists albums

I have seen The Bear Family mentioned several times here and must admit that I still don't know what it is and I have always been a bit afraid to say that, feeling that I would be laughed off the site, but I am brave now and I don't think anyone is going to laugh since I have gotten to know most of you. So would someone explain The Bear Family to me?

two:- their "Sunday Concert Plus" and the combined "Did She Mention My Name/Back Here On Earth include the seriously neglected track "Spin Spin" (the first recording by Gord that I ever heard and therefore very special to me.We were surprised recently whilst checking how well our local NJ CDWorld chain store was covering Gords CDs to find the latter CD in stock it has a nice stapled brochure which reprints the lyrics to both albums contents of 23 songs plus Spin Spin and a full page reproducing the text of the prose entitled "Please" that is the back of the vinyl album's sleeve

My copy duly arrived today
It cost somewhat less at CD Universe $8.39 plus $2.99 for the first class post (amazon's price is now $11.98 plus S/H. And the snail only had to crawl the relatively short distance from CD Universe in Wallingford Connecticut to me in New Jersey. I checked and neither CD Universe nor Amazon have yet added a picture to their site's listing and the Capitol site is still ignorant.But a further search showed that Sam's crew at Walmart are on their toes already.There is a good scan of the front insert at:- http://i.walmart.com/i/p/00/72/43/58...32_500X500.jpg
The back is a simple plain black design featuring the song list plus an old pic of Gord sideways on near a microphone.
But the female of the species here will I think want this CD for their collection for the tasty pic on the back insert's reverse (under the CD) of Gord wearing brown boots and holding out a brown suede (?) jacket whilst clinging to a road sign post possibly on Yonge Street, or somewhere else in Toronto
The fold out front insert has a "standard" bio by Joseph F. Laredo which mentions all 5 UA albums and apropos my earlier comments ends by saying
"Sunday Concert was the first Lightfoot release to climb onto Billboard's album charts a harbinger of things to come. He would go on to other labels and greater commercial success in the years that followed, but it was the consistent excellence of the early work featured here that set him on the road to stardom"
just what we have been telling you!!!
Finally I confirm that I have no interest in or connection with any of the 3 retailers mentioned above

All right!! I went to Sam Goody yesterday and I cannot believe they had this! Aside from 2 copies of Complete Greatest Hits they had...Sunday Concert on a seperate CD for $7.99. Right on! It's mine. All mine! Well..it's on hold until Friday but still....it's miiiiiiiiine! Later!

Hey Brink! Sorry for the delayed response but getting a computer for an hour here has been difficult lately. Anyway,as far as CD's go (counting the Songbook 4 as seperate albums and the 2 CD UA Coll.),that makes 13 CD's altogether (14 if you count COTS which I have on loan from this library.) Overall for CD's Vinyl & my 2 cassettes I have 37 albums. I have a few 45's also-Sundown,WOTEF,IYCRMM,Circle Is Small,Same Old Obsession with flipside You Are What I Am and 1986's Anything For Love w/a picture sleeve. So I guess that's 42 or 43 GL items in my collection. Not bad! How's your's coming along? Let me know. Later!

I have all the albums although the Two Tones record is pretty wore out. I have all the CD's and a couple bootleg. I have only one 45 I think it is Sundown and I have 10 songbooks. I did end up getting a 45 from ebay that was Gord's song but sung by a group I don't remember who, didn't realise it until I had already bid on it. Then nobody else did so I "won" it. I also have two Pony Man books one he autographed at the last concert in Orillia before he became ill, and I have two bioghraphies and a poem book. Would have loved to get the guitar but I would never be able to afford that. Some stuff is from back when I was a teenager (a long time ago) at one time when Gord's Gold came out I had seven copies, family and friends knew I liked Gord and gave them to me for gifts. After I had already bought my own!

You sure got me beat! I'd have to search even harder for those books than I did for the LP's! Then again,the music's enough for me. As evidenced by the recording of my 3rd 120min. GL tape. I forgot to bring it today to post on my seperate thread,darn it. I still need to get the tribute CD,not to mention the rest of his LP's on CD. It'll take quite a while but I'll do it! Later!
