I would ask him to set aside his humbleness and tell me if he really, really understands the impact his music has had on people and how it makes him feel deep inside his heart. He doesn't look at his career and accomplishments in that way very much and it's because of his humility I believe. He does know his music is good and has stood the test of time and always will but I mean the impact on each and every person who loves his stuff.

My question for Gordon would be "How do you remember all the words to the songs during your performance? Do you use a tele-prompter?"

I know this question was asked to Bob Dylan, and he answered that it was easy because he wrote 'em all! Yet, I've heard "...Edmund Fitzgerald" over 250 times, yet I couldn't remember the whole song if my life depended on it! How do you stay focused to remember all the words w/o forgetting?

Tom, my daughter asked me at Mariposa how Gord remembers all the words and that's what I told her - he wrote them so they are a part of him. She rolled her eyes at my philosophical answer and said she thought the words were on the black boxes on the stage in front of him (like a teleprompter)!
It is amazing though isn't it?
She is learning songs with lyric sheets I am printing from Florian's song page. Yesterday she came to me and said there was a wrong word! On the sheet of Sundown lyrics it says "faded dress" not "satin dress" and she wanted to know why GORD was singing the wrong lyrics on the album!!! She's a hoot!

Char, ya took the words right out of my mouth, I agree, Gord has no idea of how his music lingers with people, I have listened to his music for years and still it has the same feeling if not more than it ever did, Gord is one of a kind.

Don't you think Gord deliberately avoided some of the questions asked on the MMM show. He seemed to twist some questions and gave answers that didn't directly answer the original questions - clever trick. The best answer for me was the Mt Rushmore one - it cracks me up every time I hear it (and it's a good example of my point). None of his answers showed favouritism towards anyone or anything, except those which were directly about him or his music.

Remembering song words. I've seen many singer/song writers play live and many of them have got it wrong from time to time - whether deliberately or by accident, I don't know. Gord wouldn't do that - he's too much of a perfectionist for that - which I guess is one of the reasons why we all love him so much.

Al, I find that with Gord too. I mentioned somewhere else a while back that I find him to be unfailingly polite, inoffensive and adept at avoiding what he doesn't want to answer with a deflection instead of a denial.
It's charming but I sure wish he'd answer more questions!

I'd ask him if I could ask him 20 MORE
questions. And he'd laugh, I'm sure! I once
asked him all kinds of questions, but had
planned in advance and made sure they'd be
the kind of questions he wouldn't normally
hear. After about a dozen questions, I took
a breath and he said, "Got any MORE questions?!" and chuckled and I said, "Yes!"
and blasted away again. He was very patient and funny. It was like a fun little battle of wits which he, of course won. But it was
really fun and interesting.
