New topic to reduce the dial-up loading time
For those who might never have seen this before
there is an auction today for a poster for the series of coffee bar concerts in Montreal at which I first saw Gord in Concert on 21 May 1967

I saw on TV a couple of weeks ago, a special. It was about Canada's singer songwriter's of the 60's & 70's. And Gordon Lightfoot, long blond hair, was singing, "Did She Mention My Name," in 'The New Penelope Cafe', in Montreal. Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman, were in the audience. They kept hitting each other in the ribs, saying one day that will be us. I never saw Gordon Lightfoot looked and sound so wonderful . Very young, no beard or mustache. Sounded great, Red Shea on 6 string guitar, Rick Haynes on Bass, and Gord on the 12 string. Pure Lightfoot magic. The Pic, that you posted up here, reminded me of that. JJ.

anybody who has not got a copy of the reissued/repackaged Gord's Gold
could get one on ebay as a freebie
from a really keen lightfoot fan trying to offload a duplicate and surplus paper shredder

"The folowing auction is for a great paper shredder from Shredmaster. We have 2 so this one is up for sale. Works like new.

Oh and I will throw in an almost new Gord's Gold - Gordon Lightfoot CD. Played once"
there must be a joke in there somewhere, but I just can't think of it... anybody???

Well All Right!!
I am not sure if this counts but I googled for "lightfoot lyrics shred" and one result was at:-
http://www.icompositions.com/music/song.php?sid=34659
promising:-
"The Delay of Flight 597 (with apologies to Gordon Lightfoot)"
"Perhaps if Gordon was a traveling saleman like yours truly, the song would have sounded a little more like this... "
"This is a great ...and funny mod of the Edmund Firzgerald song. You must have had a long time on your hands (at the airport) to have made up all this prose. ...yes, lots and lots of boring time. This is as long as the original. Good job man. Gordon Lightfoot and Wierd Al would both be proud"
It would appear to be a 8.5MB download so if anybody with high speed connection could get it and report back I for one would be much obliged.
One interesting thing happenned a pop-up curtly told me off for using an inferior browser and volunteered a link to download firefox!!
John
I liked the reference to Weird Al!!!
No names no packdrill OK

I lokkedevagain and this time I spotted a "lyrics" link
"I had to use the john but the seat belt sign was on
And the stewardess said “what’s the matter?”
Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When ya got six cups of Joe in your bladder?"
Now that is IMHO quite funny

Mr. Fowles,

My contribution would be a TV commercial that proclaims : " Order your Shredmaster Cyclone today!
As you tearfully watch your credit card statements, bench warrants, and tax liens disappear....if you order in the next 5 minutes, we will include a free Gords Gold, guaranteed to ease your anguish. But that's not all ! You will also receive a free copy of the lyrics to "Canary Yellow Canoe" !

Anyway, just a thought.

a probably rare copy of the (UK only??) promo" 12 inch single
DAYLIGHT KATY / HANGDOG HOTEL ROOM
1978
WB Records (UK) (K17214)
is now on ebay

I have to admit I had not properly read the "singles" page on Wayne's site before
http://www.lightfoot.ca/single70.htm
So it was some surprise to see this auction
Val or anybody who might have copy are the two tracks the same length as the album versions?
As I always thought that 12 inchers were sort of extended and therefore longer running disco specials
I have 2 such:-
Clapton's full length Layla (co-written with ex Lightfoot drummer Jim Gordon)
and the full length Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd (correct spelling I checked)

Do you know how much the New Penelope poster sold for at the auction?
I have this poster and I've been thinking of selling it but I'm wondering what to expect or hope for. It's really a pretty poster.
