Thanks for posting both the review and the pictures. I am concerned about GL's stopping just before IYCRMM. I felt that something was not right with him on the clip celebrating the premier (or whatever it is called ) of Harmony. He didn't seem to be able to express himself very well- almost like someone who had had slight stroke. It seemed to me more than just shyness. Did you feel any of this when he stopped (or didn't begin) the song? Did the band handle it or did they stop also?

See the Hamilton Spectator article I posted under the "November 28 Concert Review" topic. He was described as "a chatty Lightfoot, full of vitality, singing new songs and legendary hits with a surprisingly strong voice." They also mentioned the pauses - "during the concert’s opening songs he seemed frustrated with his guitar playing –“my fingers are not yet talking to me,” he told the crowd – and at times was a bit rusty on some of the lyrics. But the crowd was more than forgiving, voice grew stronger and more confident, so that by the time he sang
Sit Down Young Stranger and If You Could Read My Mind, it was like listening to Lightfoot of 30 years ago."

So yeah, he had a few glitches but given the emotion of the evening both for him and the audience, it's probably to be expected. Can't wait to hear from tonight's lucky listeners.

He stopped in the middle of IYCRMM actually,I did happen to see GL's doctor was sitting up near the front row, so he obviously witnessed what happened and I hope he spoke with him about it afterwards... I was sitting in my seat watching what was going on and I was thinking " mini stroke" as well and at that point I wouldn't have blamed him one bit had he said " well folks I am done for tonight". But then it may have just been a case of muscle weakness.

I can't speak for anyone else who was there lastnight, but that was a very unnerving thing to witness.

During IYCRMM the band just kept on playing.

Yeah, muscle weakness, or a cramp in the hand muscle from a combination of nerves, emotions, and using muscles that probably aren't in as good a shape as he'd like them to be.

I'm not registered and I hope none of you will mind my putting in my two cents worth. Thanks to Gord for his review and pictures. I am sorry I could not be in Hamilton for the concerts. I'm going to be in Toronto this coming weekend, but could not make in time for Hamilton. That's how it goes. I've been a fan of his for about 4 decades. What Gord described sounds unnerving. I wasn't there and don't know exactly what went on, but Gordon may have been somewhat overwhelmed by the crowd and being in a formal concert for the first time in over 2 years. He is, after all, in his 60s and has been through a terrible ordeal. That he can get back up there again is admirable. I'm a geezer myself.

To Elizabeth, you mentioned that he seemed to have trouble expressing himself at the CD launch. He seemed to be searching for the right words and forgot the name of the organization in Hamilton. Actually that can be attributed to shyness. I recall a concert back in the late 80s when he was at Carnegie Hall in NYC, he looked uncomfortable during the first half of the concert and seemed to be suffering from stage fright. He mentioned that - to paraphrase - the place "made him nervous." What performer do you know of would say something like that to an audience? Gordon may not be, what you would call, glib, but he gets his point across.

I am hoping that Gordon will be up to doing the Massey Hall concerts. I would really like to be there to see him again.

Thanks for the replies. I am relieved that many/most of you feel GL is really OK just suffering from nerves and getting loosened up. MM's review suggests that he is fine and in good voice. For this I am very grateful - I hate the idea that someday GL will retire and there will be no more albums or concerts. Stay strong Gordon!

It wasn't all that great really, of 15 pictures I took these were the only ones that turned out... the zoom sorta helped... my batteries were dying on me so the focus really sucked I'm just glad 3 tunred out.
