A friend of mine recently visited the R&R Hall of fame and had the privilage of running in to REO Speedwagon, one of my favourite rock bands of all time. He overheard one of the band members joking that there were not enough bands from the midwest inducted including themselves, and most notabaly, Styx. He had a quick laugh and chat with the guys. He then had quite an interesting talk with the tour guide, asking lots of questions including about our favourite artist, Gordon Lightfoot. He asked if there was any chance of GL getting there someday. Much to my buddy's surprise, the tour guide said that he wouldn't believe how many people ask that. Maybe more GL fans out there than we know! I know that this topic has already been thrown around a few times, but what do you think? Not mainstream enough, I suppose. Any way, it's been a while since I've been here, health is finally well, and am looking forward to some good GL chats. Peace.

as much as i love to see Lightfoot lauded i don't see his music as RocknRoll. He's got a few "toe-tappers" in his repertoire but they don't classify as RocknRoll.
In his genre he's tops and has received and is still receiving many accolades for being the best.

That's true, but you know, when I go to buy Lightfoot CDs, in most stores they are under Rock & Roll. I guess a lot of stores don't have enough classifications. I loved Sam's in Toronto!!!

Well, since there are very few stores with a "folk" section,Gord's CD's are usually kept in the Pop/Rock section. One store I knopw of had the ordassity to put him in the "country" section!

I tried to explain to the manager that Gordon is not a standard country act and beongs in the pop/rock section. He wouldn't bude! I guess he just wanted to be right!

I feel that if Bob Dylan, the man who got Gordon going in the right direction in the first place.can be in the Hall Of Fame,he certainly can as well. I certainly don't feel Dylan is Rock and Roll,so it's rather contradictory that he can be in and not GL!

Lastly,Gene Pitney is in there and I almost never hear his stuff on the radio,so....why not Gordon?
