Just for kicks I went to this website, and of course found that Gordon Lightfoot is not an inductee. Not to take anything away from the great talents there, but for example Hall and Oates are inductees... but no Gord! I often wonder what it will take for him to obtain some recognition from the main stream media. Maybe 1000 composed songs? Make no mistake he is one of the most prolific talents of any era, maybe we can beat the drum harder for him. Any thoughts out there?

Paul,

Somewhere or other this topic has been discussed before in this forum. If I recall correctly, folks are nominated by existing members, not the general public. He's been a contender in the past but hasn't gotten enough votes to make the annual list.

Hall and Oates in the Songwriter's Hall of Fame? That says right there what a joke this Hall of Fame is in the first place

Now wait a minute there Kilgore,H&O have written some really good songs. Granted, they're not as self searching and deep as Gordon's or Dylan's and a lot of others I could name but for the kind of style they're known for,it's pretty darn good. Songwriting isn't just about depth,it's about creating a work that people remember and overall can stand the test of time.

This particular hall of fame can't "not" gett enough votes forever. He has to be put in sometime. Personally,I feel the ones who didn't vote for him, just don't "get" his lyrics.

I went back for another look and see that Don Mclean is an inductee. This may hold well for Gordon Lightfoot if in fact the members do have a chance to vote for future members. Jim Croce is in there as is John Denver, and while I thought they both were great, they did not have anywhere near the volume of original material that Gordon Lightfoot has written.

This is true, Paul, but to be fair, both were taken by death early. Jim Croce was barely getting started really. And John Denver had amassed quite a bit of material at the time of his death, the later stuff never got the recognition it deserved while he lived.
Lightfoot should definitely be in there, should have been in there ages ago...

If Barry Manilow is in there I'll puke.

It's like the Grammys. They have nothing to do with quality just how much sells. Forget about voting and just tally up sales
