The Gordon Lightfoot Project

Hi, I'm in high school and doing a Canadian History project on Gordon Lightfoot. For the Project I have to pick three things that represent Gordon Lightfoot and explain why they apply to him. I also have to find pictures of these things to post up onto a poster... However I'm not really sure what to pick as symbol... I was thinking something like a Guitar, the Edmund Fitzgerald, and The Canadian Railroad. Though I'm not really sure if there is something better I'd like to use it. So I'm just curious if you folks have some ideas of symbols I could use.

The first video in the archives, from 1967, shows Gord talking about growing up in Orillia. It runs a little over 8 minutes, and features brief interviews with Gord's parents

Great project and great choices. I would only add that Gord is known for playing Martin guitars and if you google Martin Guitars you can go to their internet site and get lots of info. They even released a GL signature model a few years back and you may be able to find a photo online that you could use in your project. Martin still has info on it available on their website even though it is sold out.

Good luck with your project and come back and visit us "Lightheads" every now and again!

I should laugh. All the costume jewelry I acquired as a child are now valuable antiques, ouch!

Jeffery, if you go to the home page here and click on picture galleries, Char has some awesome pictures of Gord, a lot of him and his guitar. You certainly hit the right place to find out information, there are some excellent resource people here. Are you a Gord fan, is that why you have him as a subject? Your ideas are great. John Fowles has a nice picture of the Fitz on one of the treads here, and Gord (not that Gord) has some railroad pics on here too. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

My daughter is in grade 11 and has taken Lightfoot in English and history in elementary school.English was the ballad study of Yarmouth Castle in Grade 7 I think and in Grade 8 history they studied the Canadian Railway - The Trilogy is in the Gr.8 history book here in Ontario. I've helped a few other students with their projects on Lightfoot. When my daughter and I met Lightfoot a few years ago in Orillia he seemed quite pleased that he was in a history textbook. It is a great honour for a wonderful song and man.

I'll sure have to agree with Borderstone on that one....and your choices for the three representations to Gordon,could'nt have been any better.The only one I think You might want to give some consideration to would be the guitar...This is just a thought, and some input from other's on this site would be helpfull too.As I'm sure,everyone here is aware that I am one of the proud owners of a D18GL(I apologize,I can't help it)I think some serious consideration should be given to Gordon in action with the 12 string.In as much as Gordon is synoumonis with the D-18,I think and especially in regard's to some of His most popular recordings such as "The Wreck" and CRT and many others,You might want to consider the 12 string also.This is just my opinion, But I think Gordon has done as much for the 12 string as He has done for the D18..... That's a hard call to make,but I honestly think if I was in Your sitiuation,I'd Go with the the 12 string...
I,ve got many great photo's I've taken at show's I've been to,6 or 12,whatever You may decide,I,ll gladly send You whatever you need or want...
