Many of the suggestions given here would seem to fit in perfectly with a song about the Lewis & Clark expedition on the Missouri River in Montana. This was one of the most significant historic events in the exploration of the west. Wildlife was plentiful (including buffalo, bear, and even river otters). It would be a great honor to this country for Gord to write a song about it. Ever since he mentioned it at a concert the idea has intrigued me because I've been on a couple river trips down this stretch (in a canary yellow canoe) and it's an awesome experience to read the expedition journal and stop at some of the key heritage sites along the way. And I would hope that any song would include something about the native americans--the good and bad so as not to glorify the whole expedition.
