Welcome To Try is probably the most optimisic song I have ever heard done by GL. I wish I had heard it sooner.

Whoops, I accidently hit the submit reply button but pressed escape but it was too late. Oh well, it is looking on the bright side, do you not agree?

Re: Most optimisitc Gord Song
I love HIGHWAY SONGS... maybe because as a Canadian I can relate to it.. (as can everyone who gets home again)
When I walk the hill so high
Around the town where I was born
New York seems so far away
Though I was there just yesterday
I have played on my guitar
In coffeehouses, hall and bars
Everyone that I call friend
Knows they will not be forgot
Trains and planes and rented cars
Singers, saints and other starts
I suspect them every one
They'll never change, it's too much fun
Just for now I'd like to rest
In the shade of a maple tree
To the blue Canadian sky
I'll say a prayer for the world out there
When I stand on my own sod
It feels so good to be home, by God
The winter wind has turned my head
But I always came up warm somehow
Bottles, beads and cigarettes
And lovers that I ain't found yet
Pickin' with a friend till dawn
And singing all of those hi'way songs
Just for now I'd like to rest
In the shade of a maple tree
To the blue Canadian sky
I'll say a prayer for the world out there
When I walk the hill so high
Around the town where I was born
New York seems so far away
Though I was there just yesterday
I would travel all my life
If loneliness was not the price
While headin' north across that line's
The only time I'm flyin'

Re: Most optimisitc Gord Song
I would nominate Gord’s ‘Hiway Songs’ as an optimistic, positive song.
I’m biased, as it’s on my favourite GL album.
( Perhaps someone will start a thread on their favourite GL album and we can go from there...)

^ I love "Hiway Songs" too! It's my favorite song on "Old Dan's Records." Definitely one of my Top Ten Gordon songs.

Re: Most optimisitc Gord Song
Salute ( A Lot More Livin' To Do) Gordon was coming off of the alcohol, and was probably saying this to himself over and over in his head.
Broken Dreams "…..sometimes a broken dream can make you sad or make you mean, sometimes things ain't as bad as they might seem" …..
Tatoo - probably my favorite GL song. Even though everything around him is bad/hopeless, the man in the song still holds out hope of regaining his true love back.
As you can probably tell by my choices, 'Salute' is my favorite GL album. (first thing I ever had him autograph!!)
I would probably put 'Hi Way Songs' right up there as well. It's a song that could go on for 20 minutes and we wouldn't even care!!!!
