Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
I like Jenney's response ---> Not enough !
Next I guess this would be a fair question...
How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you go to in the same year ?
Maybe Dream Street Rose holds the record ???

Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
I would have attended 16 in 2002, had he not gotten sick. As it was, I attended only 8, which is probably my one year record (I did something like that in 2001 too, I believe). In 2002, I had tickets for the Atlantic Canada concerts and also for Massey, in addition to the 8 I saw in the spring. I don't know my overall total, but it is probably low 30s.

Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
After four concerts this year, I recently sat down and listed all the GL concerts I have attended. My first concert was April 27, 1979 in Minneapolis. Thanks to the set lists I have given Wayne Francis over the years and now posted on lightfoot.ca, I was able to total the concerts.
My total is now: 35, in places ranging from the Twin Cities to Toronto to Sault St. Marie. I always snicker a little when I listen to the Harmony album and hear myself clapping as "Shellfish" and the "No Hotel" were performed during the three concerts I attended there in May 2001.
Boy, I have had fun this past 28 1/2 years. I look forward to concert # 36 and beyond. Would really appreciate if Gord would put out the long-rumored CD of Massey Hall recordings from throughout the years. That would be the perfect gift to go along with all these memories.

Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
Hi Jesse Joe,
Now I feel like the pressure is on. I have already started letting my husband know that GordQuest 2008 is only a few months away. It seems the older you get the faster time goes.
Hopefully I can break my concert record from this year by at least one. Lucky 13 is my goal.
Get ready Kathy, Kerstin and Ken. Rest up now while the resting is good.

John (now I can put a face to the name ),
Do you remember what the venue was that you saw Gord perform at in 1979? Was it at
Northrup Auditorium at the 'U'?? Our daughter was born in 1971, so she would've been 8 that year. I keep thinking that we were there with our children, in 1979, but can't find all the ticket stubs from back then.

I can now make a few corrections
the overall total was actually 44 see my page:-
http://www.johnfowles.org.uk/LIGHTFO...4_concerts.htm
as Gord knows we told him last November we had to miss all 10 of the 2007 concerts that were all within easy driving distance of our NJ home as we were down under amongst other things trying to persuade Melburnian catmanRon (whatever became of him I have not seen a dicky bird from him here for yonks!)
so our 2007 total of a big fat zero was extremely disappointing and naturally we are now anxiously awaiting details of the mooted
"US southeast run is being put together for early next year."
Finally in response to the following

As shown in the above referenced listing on my website after the drought of 2002/2003/2004
to make up for it and to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary we really splurged out in 2005
and managed to attend 50% of that year's 34 concerts so our 2005 total of 17 will no doubt be our best for a very long time

Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
Hi Louise. Yes, I enjoyed meeting you and saying a quick hello that night at the Barnes and Nobles before the recent Minneapolis concert. You asked some questions about Gord's Twin Cities appearances over the years that others may enjoy.
Gord played the large Northrup Auditorium at the University of Minnesota from the early 1970's until 1988. So I was there with you in 1979 somewhere. Since then, he has used smaller venues (e.g. 2000 seats) such as the State Theatre, Orpheum Theatre and O'Shaunhessy Auditorium at the College of St. Catherine's in St. Paul in 1995. Gord has been regularly performing in the Twin Cities since 1967 and his recent concert was the 40th anniversary, although he hasn't come back every year. In his early years, he played the Guthrie Theatre which has since been torn down. There was a stretch during the 70's and 80's when he was here every year.
Long time Twin Cities promoter Fred Krohn has been involved with bringing Gord here for probably 35 years now. I noticed he got a thank you acknowledgement in the liner notes to the "Songbook" CD set. I met him once at a concert when I was able to get backstage in the early 1980's when it was truly tough to do so.
In 1979, Gord was so popular that he filled Northrup Auditorium for two shows the same night. Both sets were casino-length shows. The first show started at 7 or 8 and the second show was really late like starting at 9 or 10 p.m. The Good Brothers, who backed Gord on the "Old Dan's Records" album, was the opening act and I remember them singing Alberta Bound.
Wayne's website at lightfoot.ca has concert dates and locations back to 1974, I think. The set list posted for Apr. 27, 1979 was the first concert of the two. I remember in the second set he did "All the Lovely Ladies" and two new songs from the upcoming Dream Street Rose album but for some reason I didn't make any notes of the second show. Young and dumb, I think.

Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
I thought I held the record(at 0)for fewest G.L. concerts attended, but Joveski beat me to it! I doubt if I'll ever be able to get to one.I don't drive, and my BF can't handle city driving.Since Gordon doesn't usually play the smaller venues, the odds of it happening are not in my favor(unfortunately).Oh well, you guys enjoy for me,ok?

Oh! The memories......especially the Northrup. His music just filled the venue and must have echoed out over the campus. I worked for years on the campus and thought that Northrup was the most "magical" place in the city. ......and the State Theatre, The Orpheum, and O'Shaunhessy Auditorium at THe College of St. Catherine. isn't that where you have to go up a stairway to get to the auditorium?? So we have gone every time since he was here since 1979 with the exception of one year (because of a family emergency)
We ended up in the emergency room with the tickets. Ironic.
But, what a couple "decades +" it has been!!!! It's just hard to put into words what an influence Gord has had on our lives. But it's been a continual ongoing experience of love of his music, respect for the man, and just the pure enjoyment of listening to him and the band. His music is woven in and out of our lives, so it becomes almost the very fabric of our lives. Thank you Gord. God bless you. We hope that you know how much you are loved. And, at this point in your life, I really think that you do.

Thanks to Waynes web site which helped my memory!
I counted 73 concerts that I went to so far. I started in either 1971 or 1972, and went to at least one a year except for the times he wasn't touring. Prior to the internet, it was almost impossible to find out where he was going to be, except my reading the paper every Sunday. I have the good fortune to live in New England where he always seemed to come around to, and things aren't that far apart. Even so, I missed a lot that I would have gone to had I known.
Add to the 73, I currently have tickets for the next 4 Massey Hall shows, and one more in 2007. I honestly thought I was closer to the 100 mark than I am, but maybe I'll get there yet!

I thought I'd bring this back up to the top again.
Next week I'll be attending my 83, 84 and 85th concert. I had to skip Massey this year, and my travel time is limited, so it may be tough to get to the 100 mark. Pretty happy I made it to 85 though!!

Wow, I feel like a slacker, lol. I don't know the exact count, but my love for his music started when I first saw him at the Troubadour in LA (late 60's), then 2 or 3 times in Bay Area between 1971-1978, and then maybe 3 or 4 times here in Portland. Then I had the good fortune to see him last August here in Portland and twice in May at Massey. I'll add another one next month at Cerritos. (If others are going to Cerritos, I hope we can meet up!)
Wish I'd saved my ticket stubs in the earlier days!

Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
I'm so jealous! So few for me because of his touring pattern.
Early 80s...Shadows tour I think, in Nashville 1 night, Louisville the next
Then Billy Bob's in Ft Worth (front row center baby!)in late 80s
Will Rogers Auditorium in Ft. Worth (3rd row center!) in 80s or early 90s
Starplex in Dallas in 90s (lousy sound levels)
2000 - Wolftrap Vienna, VA
2001? - Greensboro, NC
2004? - Comeback from the brink tour - Wolftrap
2007? - Wolftrap - the insufferably hot and sweaty concert
Sadly, had to pass on Wolftrap 2008
Highlight I think for me was when he did Minstrel of the Dawn at Wolftrap and while he'd sounded a little frail, turned in a performance of that rivaling the original recording!

Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
I looked back and I think I have been to 19. I would have said about 30 if I hadn't gone back and looked at Wayne's list. Do I get credit for the 600 mile round trip to Harris for the cancelled concert? I did see the band that night in the restaurant, but did not see GL.
After Manistee's concert this year, I was thinking I wouldn't go to any more. But I see he is in Interlochen in 2009, which is only 18 miles away, sooooooooo, I'll probably be there!

Re: How many Gordon Lightfoot concerts did you attend?
Hard to believe only once (1988 at Meadowbrook Theater in Rochester Hills, MI). Heading to #2 in less than 2 weeks, Kalamazoo, MI. Considering I'm reasonably sure I have every album/CD released to date, and have listened to the songs thousands of times since the 70s, I'm not quite sure why I never made it to more concerts. I'll have to make up for lost time!
