Re: Gord's lyrics that mention (or for) children
indeed, Tim...and for any who never had the pleasure of reading the short story/concert report that accompanies this stunning photo, here's part III
http://www.corfid.com/vbb/showthread...hlight=concert
I've also noticed Gord gleeming when he reminisces of his own childhood - most recently when he was recalling joining young pals to see films at the old hometown opera house
btw, steve... I was just being rediculous when I suggested Same Old Loverman
btw2, speaking of his own childhood, I don't recall any mention of Mama Said

Re: Gord's lyrics that mention (or for) children
JJ - I caught the humour on Same Old Loverman , but by the book, it DID meet the criteria cause he sings "while the KIDS are at school" er something as you said. That was a fair entry - but funny. I watched in you tube today the Stonewall team vistory of Same Old Loverman, and there he was - Elvis.
My otherwise quite reserved and ne'er a foul word spoken in the house parents even called Elvis: - "Pelvis" ,for his lower back and hips gyration thing he did, LOL...... said they could not take him seriously while rotating his pelvis. My father said if Elvis were observed by aliens, (historical note: as NASA Brass, he NEVER otherwise spoke the word ALIEN, as no doubt there were stories to tell, but all deeply classified.....lol) he said the aliens would probably think Elvis to be doing an innate male strutting display of plummage, and a geneticcally-driven "mating dance", much like Roosters strutting on barn roofs back and forth.
-more- off-thread Elvis miscellany:
Dad also mentioned in further rare form, that early experimental guidance mechanisms in rockets were based on inertia and conservation of momentum, even as primitive at first as a chicken bobbing its head up and down to eat corn or grain in the nosecone, thus providing a primitive and not-too effective mechanism for inertial stabilization. This was scrapped rather quickly.
Then, the more ingenious 2nd generation stabilization guidance mechanisms of spinning gyro-gimbals, spinning on 3 axes, of heavy metal, thus creating the same effect some of may have done as a child when removing the wheel from your bike, and spinning it while holding the hub. If you ever did that, as Dad showed me, it is VERY hard to move or "turn" the wheel off-axis, or its position maintained while spun- hence the conservation of momentum, inertial functions, and how the gyro-gymbals worked.
Well, Dad then explained that, somewhere in between bobbing chickens and gyro-gimbals technology, it was thought if Elvis were to be placed in the nose-cone, sing a song where he really got those hips gyrating, with specific instructions to maintain a uniform pelvis gyration on three axes, in a constant fashion, he would thereby keep the launch vehicle from straying off course.
This idea was not implemented, but by virtue of Federal eminant domain, Elvis' hips could have been commandeered in the national interest. Fortunately, NASA was able to place a man on the moon in time for compliance with JFK's patriotic edict by the end of the decade in the 60's. Without Elvis' Pelvis.
-----end off-thread blabbery blabberty

Re: Gord's lyrics that mention (or for) children
i personally think that Gord did Pony Man specifically for children, as it reminds me of all the little lullabys & nursery songs that I used to hear as a kid.

"This one goes back to the triplex on Farnham Avenue, where I was living with the wife and two kids. I wrote this for my kids, Fred and Ingrid, in a very short time. I didn't act the role of the doting, guitar-toting, singing father figure, but I would occasionally play the odd riff for the kids. I found out that a lot of the time they really couldn't care less. Kids don't really care what you do; they just want to be with you."
Farnham, nice. I always chuckle but nod whenever I read those last two lines.

Re: Gord's lyrics that mention (or for) children
[quote=geodeticman.5;140952]Yes ! all excellent examples ! thank you.....this one is fun now
Pony Man - I am sure it does - good example of written FOR Children as I understand it. Did you guys know a lady in Boulder, Colorado "Susan Polis Schultz" (sp?) wrote a childrens BOOK from the song - called "The Pony Man" ? If I remember right, it was done with Gordon's assistance. She has done poem-based "mood" booklets for Blue Mountain Arts in Gunbarrel, Colo. as I recall for years. Many cards, booklets of poems, and posters containing many of Gord's songs, lyrics in little bits and pieces commonly, some converted to poem by minor editing when necessary.
Steve, it's funny you mentioned Blue Mountain. I have the poetry book called "I Wish You Good Spaces", and also just discovered my 1979 GL calendar, which has artwork and lyrics/poems by the same artist. I wonder if GL had input on that as well. It's really beatiful!
A couple songs mentioning children:
On Yonge Street - "see the children jumping up and down"
The House You Live In - "be kind to your children"

Re: Gord's lyrics that mention (or for) children
Ann -
a. - Blue Mtn. Arts eg Susan Polis Schultz - yes..! someone recognized the stuff , and even has some of it.... it always been big in Colorado resort towns in gift shops.... there's even some connection to a line of calendars, posters, lost of cards....... by a sister company of another name on the tip of my tongue.... damn... that is connected to Blue Mountain Arts.. - they do great cowboy and Native American theme paintings primarily - with either cowboy'salty - or humrous sayings..... picture slike a cowboy hangin off the face of a cliff. holding on to hhis reighs to his horse...trying to get the hose to back up........ horse lokks angry.....LOL that kind of characiture art.,.... dang it i knnow their name....
yes Ms. Schultz is a very creative poet, and liberal appreciative user of Gordon's lyrics - there has to be a contract with Early Mourning Productions/Moose Music... so you have some of it ? neat.

LEANIN TREE ! Thats the sister company to Blue Mountain Arts ! you gotta see their stuff - when i want either a humorous cowboy country card ( and I throw a mean lassoo rope, other end not always on a pommel ( or saddle horn...oops eeeeyaaah) or, a sensitive Native American painting of say a "squaw" mother holding a newborn babie - as congrats to a family - I always go right to Leanin' Tree ! Check em out ! They incoporate Gord's lyrics here and ther too.

Yonge Street - would never have guessed it.,...
The House You Live In - again, never would have guessed that one... in my head...
