Steam coming out of my ears

Break out the Ben-Gay – concert venues are being invaded by graybeard stars and they're ready to roll

Money quote:
"I always felt conventional and even a bit ashamed to keep going back to the well over and over for Air Supply, Gordon Lightfoot and numerous other acts that seemed like they were tired or just phoning it in,” Weissberg, 59, said."

Poor Mr. Weissberg, this makes me very afraid - I didn't realize that dementia could be this severe in such a relatively young age. Too bad there isn't medication for cases like his.

Re: Steam coming out of my ears
Apparently Mr. Wipe-bugar er....er..Weisberg doesn't really understand the term "phoning it in". "Phoning it in",is when you're a burned out act who doesn't play with any emotion, enthusiasm, energy which leads to bad singing, lousy backing from your co-vocalists and band.
Sort of like how Saturday Night Live is,with their comedy now. It's gotten so Sophmoric (or Freshman!) they really are "phoning it in" or in this case "texting". LOL!!
Mr. Wipeyer ...Weisberg,also (cearly) has forgotten that it's us the fans that matter and not his or any other critic's opinions. !!!!!

Re: Steam coming out of my ears
Relax. I live in San Diego and I now know of about five people who have read Varga's column. Those five are: Varga, Auburn Annie, Brink (Hi Deb!!!), Timetraveler and Borderstone.
I get the paper daily and rarely read past his headline. Relax.

Re: Steam coming out of my ears
I'm certainly not happy seeing Gord and Air Supply in the same sentence.

Re: Steam coming out of my ears
I don't mind them being mentioned together, they're both unique in their own ways.
Although it's unintenionally funny watching Russell Hitchcock (curly haired one) & Graham Russell (blonde guy) in that current TIME/LIFE "Soft Rock" commercial.
Last comment on "phoning",if these acts were doing so,their fans would know it from the first song or two and leave. (That's why I left a Foreigner concert in '04. Lou Gramm was so off key that night ugh!

Re: Steam coming out of my ears
Border...Have you been to a Foreigner concert lately? Like within the last two or three years? I love Lou Gramm's voice but I know he has an inoperable brain tumor. The medication he has to take to keep the tumor's growth under control had steriods in it and that made him gain a hell of a lot of weight. I hope he is getting along pretty well. I love 'I Want to Know What Love Is' and 'Growin' Up the Hard Way'.

Re: Steam coming out of my ears
I lost interest in Air Supply back during their self titled album. They were good in their day, but music like Gords seems to endure forever & will always do so long after some of these other young pups have reached middle age.
