I am not sure as that is the Mariposa festival where Dylan got swarmed and had to beat a fast retreat visa vis a private motorboat. If the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star or Telegram were archived you could probably find out for the early 70s.

from a bob dylan website
"The Newport Folk Festival was cancelled in 1971 and resumed 15 years later in 1986. The notion of Dylan performing at Newport or any of the other folk festivals seemed a non-issue though he did attend the Mariposa Folk Festival where he had to be escorted off the island, and made a secret visit to the Philadelphia Folk Festival in 1972."

I take it all back about Jesse not being there - according to this City of Toronto website - it is indeed Jesse in the middle - they have the photo labelled as such - it must be true, eh?

About that photograph - Yes, you are correct, that is [little] Jesse and it was at the Mariposa Festival in 1972. Several weeks ago, I was speaking to Art Usherson, the photographer who took the picture. He told me it was a fluke that he ran into Dylan and wife Sara and caught them in a camera friendly mood. The result was a series of shots widely distributed at the time.
The Lightfoot/Dylan picture came about the same way and since Usherson was a backstage photographer at many Lightfoot concerts at the time, Lightfoot easily obliged him with the pose.
Just after it was taken, this shot appeared as a two page spread in a Rolling Stone photo edition.
[Which I still own]
If you look at the full frame version of the photograph, on the far left is David Bromberg and on the far right there is a hand raised, holding a joint.
Since This was the same photograph Lightfoot signed for me, after the Town Hall concert last month, I thought you might like some background.
Now you know more then I'm sure you ever wanted to, concerning this picture.

Arthur,
I've looked over many of your pics in the past but always enjoy them each time I visit your site. I really do enjoy the one of Gord, Gino Empry and Tony Bennett (pic 176) - I'm assuming that was at the Royal York Hotel??
great stuff!
