I've been a big fan of yours for many years and loved seeing you in concert in San Francisco in the early 1980's. Now my son has also become a huge fan of yours and recently bought your Songbook cd collection and we now always have it playing through our house. We are from upper Michigan and you have very many fans up here. Thank you for all of the wonderful music you have given us.

Have been a Lightfoot fan forever it seems having grown up in New Brunswick;going to university in the Us;and working all over the world in mineral exploration. Always had my Lightfoot music with me to keep in touch with the real world. Saw Gordon in New York when he had just finished Edmund Fitzgerald and enjoyed many of his concerts in the old Massey in Toronto. I am now living un Reno and have just found this site. Hope to see Gordon in Reno in April 2000. He never disappoints.

Just rediscovered Gordon Lightfoot, after getting Gord's Gold, Volumes I & II for Christmas. I loved his stuff always, of course, but was too broke in those days to buy much of it! Now, I'm starting to fill in the voids in my music collection. Great website here! Also hoping to get some discussions going with musicians who do covers of Lightfoot's music.

I have adored Gordon Lightfoot's music since the seventies when I was ateenager.I grew up in New Zealand ,but now live in Australia. Please, will you ever tour here?
My two favourite songs are 'If you could read my mind' and 'Beautiful'.My favourite album is 'Gord's Gold'.
My ideal evening is a decent bottle of Red,Gord's Gold on the record player, sitting on the balcony at my holiday house in Wanaka,N.Z.,watching the sun going down.Sheer bliss.
A couple of years ago,Wesley CD Centre in Perth sent to the states and managed to order Gord's Gold on Cd.hallelujah!
If you read this ,Gordon,I love your music, thanks for all the great songs, and I sincerely hope there is more to come!I hope your christmas has been joyous and your new year will bring health, wealth and happiness.

I have been a fan of GL since the 70's when Sundown was released in Britain. That was the first time I heard his music…quickly went out and bought the album, and many more since. My regret is that I have yet to see him play live…will he ever play England again (I can only hope). I can't even find a live concert on video…does anyone know of any? Thanks again, it's a great site.

Gordon Lightfoot is a talent I wish we could have
enjoyed him more in the states. My husband was at a
Weather Station on Prince Patrick Island for a
year around l972 and our only communication was by ham radio, he was so enthusiastic about the
singer Gordon Lightfoot. I went and got a tape
of him and absolutely loved his voice and songs
too. So when he came home we went to get more
of this music. We could listen to him every day
and never get tired of it. We would like to get
more of his music but here in Kansas they don't
have a big variety of his tapes. Is there some
place we could get more tapes? This man has a
voice that is so soothing and beautiful. Gordon Lightfoot, please have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

GORDON LIGHTFOOT -
Gordon my husband and I have been fans of yours
since we first heard you in the early 70's. We
always brought our children with us to your concerts. It's possible that they thought at that
time you were the only performer there was. You
were the ONLY ONE in our household.
It's so impossible to pick a favorite of your songs, but to me it is the one about "THE SHIP".
I grew up two blocks from Lake Superior and had
seen the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Good luck to and your family and a belated Happy
Birthday !!!! I just had one and we are right
there along side you.
Love always.

The first time I heard a GL tune was in 1997. I was on 14 Street SW Calgary in an old Ford with my then spouse and three of his fellow drywallers (He and I are from N.S., one of the other guys was from the Kootenays and one was from the Prairies). All three of them knew the song (Sundown) by heart and sang out loud, apparently unembarrassed by my presence. I was quite surprised and I loved the song. I asked them who sang it and after that I was home alone and requested it on the radio. Now back in the Maritimes, I recently purchased two of GL's CDs and my dad was quite surprised at my interest in the music as he had always been a fan, unbeknownst to me had actually seen GL play in the 70s in N.S. I couldn't believe it and I would love to see GL in person. After looking at his tour dates and the places he will be showing I know that he probably won't be here in N.S. soon but if he ever is, you can bet I'll be there, in the front row!!! I love this website. Keep up the good work. Gordon Lightfoot is an alltime musical great of Canada. I feel his music is a Canadian voice and an important one.

Thanks for this great web site. I happened upon it at the end of October. Thanks to a tour schedule I found on somebody's web site (I'll give you all credit!) I was able to catch a Lightfoot concert in Regina, Saskatchewan; my third. It was wonderful and full of such great music and nostalgia. I can pin a memory on nearly every Lightfoot song I know. It was just a joy. I recently picked up the Songbook collection and it is delightful, especially the older music I was not familiar with. I have long wished I could personally thank this man for all his music has meant to me - although he doesn't know it, "we've been friends for such a long, long time." And I still get a lump in my throat every time I hear "If You Could Read My Mind." Thanks again for this splendid stop along the information superhighway!

Happy belated birthday.
"Painter" has its moments, but in general I've got to agree with the critic who said it seems like Gord has backed away from the abyss a bit and his songs have suffered for it. (While adding that his songs are more intelligent and well-written than most today). I somehow think Gord has at least one more great, all-time memorable song in him that he's not let out yet; it almost happened a couple of times in "Waiting for You", but just fell short on a couple of cuts (the title track, "Drink Yer Glasses Empty", "Wild Strawberries" and "Restless")--all fine songs, but just short of greatness. The other thing that's missing is the kind of tension between the seeming simplicity of the chord progressions with the great knowledge of composition he showed in his earlier works; he needs not only changes in tempi, but in color. Still, he's the best songwriter I know of, and his music is with me every day of my life.

Just want to say, Happy Birthday Gordy. Your 61 years young and still going strong. Just saw him 2 nights in Toronto at Massey Hall and he blew them all away. I hope he can continue his renewed spirits, especially with his very young family providing him with the youthful vigor and motivation that he exuded as he played before a packed house. I was blown away when he sang "If You Could Read My Mind" and "In My Fashion". He can still do it. Thoses are my personal favorates. Look forward to seeing him again!

I find myself amazed at the way GL's music has managed to transcend not only time, but also technology. His gift first touched my soul via an 8 track player in my fathers new '72 Monte Carlo driving through the Colorado rockies. I last saw Lightfoot play Massey Hall, his adopted home town theatre in March, 1995. It was a must see concert for me, being an avid fan of his material since a child, like so many of you. I watched as the yuppies scoffed by the beggars on Victoria Street on their way in to the show. Without being judgemental here, I did note at the time to my friend that "The House You Live In" (1973) comes to mind. What song did GL commence with but...........You guessed.
No conincidence.
Thank God for oldies radio...

I attended the recent GL concert in Cleveland on October 17 1999 - talk about a walk down memory lane! If any one out there has the chance to see this individual in concert it would be a sin to miss it. Even at 60 years old, one can close their eyes during his live performance and get the same quality of music as if you were listening to a CD. And traveling with members of the old band (Terry Clements and the like) added the touches to his songs that brought back the haunting memories of oldies like "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" and "Canadian Railroad Trilogoy". GL is one of the rare artists that transcends generations. Gordon, if you ever read this, I can only say one thing - THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES, BUD!"

My husband and I are in Cleveland and just came from the concert at the Palace Theatre. What a great show. Of course we had to come home and get out the vinyl, since Gord didn't do my husband's favorite, 'Race among the ruins.' Gotta say, Gord's lookin' pretty sexy for sixty. |

His song "Ordinary Man" meant a lot to me when I was a teenager dealing with all my self doubts. He is my favorite songwriter hands down! Thanks for your excellent web site! |

My wife and I met , and she claims the moment she "fell" was hearing me sing at a wedding - the song was "Beautiful."Little did I know what was in store...GREAT site. Thank you for bringing it to us.Time to get out Old Gord's Records!!! |

I can still remember the date when I first heard "If You Could Read My Mind" (December 15, 1970 on CKLW out of Windsor). I have attended concerts in Columbus, Ohio, Toledo, Ohio, six or seven at Massey Hall in Toronto, but most of them in Cleveland where we will catch the show this Sunday night (10/17/99).A memorable moment was when my wife and I were strolling around the theatre in Columbus early before a show and Lightfoot and the band pull up in two rental cars. We had a chance to chat with him and the band and get a few pictures. Also met him after shows in Cleveland and Toronto. My favorite song is "It's Worth Believein" for over 27 years found on "Old Dan's Records". I am so glad "Forgive Me Lord" was finally released on his latest CD. A Great Song! |

My wife and I love Gord's music and the first song we danced to as husband and wife was "Beautiful." We saw our first concert on an anniversary several years ago at the Front Row Theater in Cleveland and will get to see him again one week from tonight at the Palace Theater in Cleveland. I'd be very happy if he'd wish me and my beautiful wife Pam a happy anniversary. We very much look forward to the show and would like to thank Gordon for all the happiness his music has added to our lives. |

Name: Dave Harris daveuk1968@aol.com From: (IP Address: 152.163.197.184) Added: Thursday, October 7, 1999 10:36 AM Comments: I first heard of Gordon Lightfoot when I heard the Kingston Trio sing "Early Morning Rain", about 1967. When I was in the Army and was buying records at the PX, my fiance (now my wife of 29 years) asked me to find any Lightfoot albums I could find. We spent one New Years Eve playing "Did She mention My Name" over and over. We first saw Gord at the Philadelphia Academy of Music in May, 1971 and have seen him live four times since. When oldest daughter, now 25, was a little girl, her last request before going to bed was "Play 'Pony Man', Daddy!" We enjoy his music as much now as ever. Favorite song? Tough choice - probably "Heaven Help the Devil". |

People often ask me if I am a Gordon Lightfoot fan. I guess they hear the influence in my own music. I always sing "Early Mornin Rain" for friends. Love it and feel it.Randy |

I used to sail on the ore boats, and many people have accused me of becoming a fan after I heard "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald." Not True! With a name like Jude, people ask me if my favorite song is "Hey Jude." It's not! My favorite song is "Carefree Highway." Her name was Anne, and she left me not knowing what to do! |
