Happy Birthday, Gord......
Sometimes I still find it hard to believe that Gord is not with us anymore. For many of us, his presence is still a part of us. His music lives forever. And, for the past week or so, he has been prominent in so many news stories because of the Fitz 50th anniversary events.
I wish he could have lived to see all the 50th anniversary memorials. They were so well done, so reverent. It was very moving to see the family members tell their stories, and for them to be honored because of the service of their loved ones. It was so special to see that so many people realized that most of us would never have even known of that shipwreck, were it not for Gord's song, and to see him honored that way was very touching.
So, on what would have been Gord's 87th birthday, I give a humble nod to the man we all loved. I'm honored to have known him and to have met some wonderful people who shared the love of his music. We had some great times together because of old Gord! His legacy will always be with us. But, for now, rest easy, Gord. We have the watch.
