Default Lightfoot endorses tune - UP IN BUFFALO/CABARET

Exciting news for Lightfoot fans - and Gordon likes it! : "It's very well done. I think it works," Lightfoot says of the melodic tune, expressing his desire to "get it out" to friends, fans and the public.

LISTEN:
"Up in Buffalo" now available https://soundcloud.com/lightfeet-131.../up-in-buffalo

Attention all Gordon Lightfoot, folk-rock fans, and all fans of good music.
Great news.
"Up in Buffalo" a terrific new creation from legendary singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot and longtime Lightfoot scribe and songwriter EJ Greenberg is now available to hear and purchase.

"It's a tribute to a friend and a music legend," says Greenberg, who first began writing about Lightfoot for the late, lamented Buffalo Courier-Express morning newspaper in Buffalo, N.Y. while in college. Since then, his articles about the music icon have appeared in such major newspapers as USA Today, The Buffalo News, New Jersey's News Tribune, The Village Voice and New York Newsday.

"Up in Buffalo" is performed by Lightfeet, arranged by Toronto music whiz Mike GruneIr and produced by star Toronto producer Brian Moncarz.

Talking of lyrics, I have just gone through the song a couple of times jotting down the lyric, there is a point just after about 1:40 where it goes: "and I'm racing down the........it's a scene."

It sounds like 'something' road. Anybody tell me what it is.

i have no idea what that lyric is, Jim... i think i get the gist of this now... it's taking a GL song (part of it) and modifying it to one's own perspective (surfing the web, can't be a Gord perspective, lol) ... plus adding that bridge

there is a connection between Gord and this journalist, which is nice.... maybe this production will lead to some royalties and also give Cabaret some mainstream (via social media?) exposure that the original album cut never received

Eric and Gordon met in Buffalo about 35 years ago.. He's in NY and the singer Mike Grunier is in TO with his band LIGHTFEET. Eric was in the tune along with 4 others, lots of guitar parts and a mandolin.. Gordon gave them approval to re-write the 2nd half and got co-writer credit.lol.. https://www.facebook.com/

thanks of that co-write info there are other tunes where the geography of lyrics might be fun... how about them remaking ( co-writing ) Canary Yellow Canoe?

Eric was playing with the live tribute sessions back when Gord gatherings first started up across the continent... he is pictured between Derek and Cathy (good pic of her delivering lyric) .... maybe someone can contact the one of the co-writers and get the missing lyric ...i have corresponded with Mike G before and will see if I still have his contact info ...cheers!

It sounds like "data stream" to me.

i think the singer has good tone and phrasings... i guess the lyricist is talking about downloading internet stuff as he misses his gal... i dunno but it's certainly modernized the song!

i think another approach would have been to just let Gord's original Cabaret (part 2) vibe, inspire a new tune altogether... change the melody/phrasings more and alter a chord progression here and there, and take that added bridge and repeat it, and even make it the verse ... then the song becomes one's own and no GL permission is needed ... it would be fun to have fans alter GL titles and lyrics to have them fit their own situations even more than they already do... fun stuff

apparently an entire studio project is forthcoming... good luck these Gord lovers

I think they wanted Gordon's endorsement as that adds a little more credence to it..
