Canadian teenager Eugenie Bouchard has won her quarter-final against Ana Ivanovic, who eliminated top seed Serena Williams. Bouchard meets China's Li Na in a semi-final at 1.30pm Thursday Melbourne time (9.30pm Wednesday Toronto time). The winner goes into Saturday's final against the winner of Agnieszka Radwanska v Dominika Cibulkova.

Re: Canadian in Australian Open tennis semi-final
and the powers that be that had that interviewer ask her who she would like to date after she had just won such an important tennis match should all be fired. how insulting.
i've never heard such inanity asked of any sports figure be it man or woman at such a momentous moment in their career. first time in 30 years a canadian has reached the semi-final! being a poised and polite canuck and a young one at that they're lucky she didn't tell them to 'get stuffed'.
and congrats to her for making us proud-for her sports accomplishment AND being polite.
love the following of aussie guys that she has too - http://www.thestar.com/sports/tennis..._open_run.html

Re: Canadian in Australian Open tennis semi-final
I share your outrage over that inappropriate question from on-court interviewer Sam Smith. (A comment below the CBC link described her as an "Australian reporter", but she is actually a British reporter and former player who never made it past the 4th round in a Grand Slam event.) It seems she was told to ask that question by her employer, TV Channel 7.

TV Channel 7 management needs a boot to the arse.
Eugenie did herself proud...she's got a great career ahead of her..
Her parents are true monarchists-she and her twin sis Beatrice are named after Andrews girls, her brother is William, and another sis is named Charlotte after Princess Caroline of Monaco's daughter.lol http://sports.nationalpost.com/2014/...justin-bieber/

Re: Canadian in Australian Open tennis semi-final
Sorry to see Eugenie lost the semi-final in straight sets, but the experts agree she has a great career ahead of her. Li Na won the final against Dominika Cibulkova in straight sets. Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka won the men's final against Spain's Rafael Nadal in 4 sets, but Nadal made a gutsy effort with a back injury to play out the 2nd set and win the 3rd set.

Re: Canadian in Australian Open tennis semi-final
www.ausopen.com
A few minutes from now, Eugenie Bouchard plays Maria Sharapova in a quarter-final. I hope she wins it and justifies the (2014) thread headline. Apparently the "twirl" request was in response to Eugenie the previous day discussing Serena Williams' dress sense and contemplating doing something similar.
The last Australian, Nick Kyrgios, plays Andy Murray in a quarter-final 7 hours from now.

Re: Canadian in Australian Open tennis semi-final
Murray was a little bit too good for Kyrgios, and praised him in after match interview. Nick Kyrgios will go far.

Re: Canadian in Australian Open tennis semi-final
Sad to see Bouchard and Kyrgios lose their quarter-finals. Another Canadian, Milos Raonic, is currently 3-3 in the first set of his quarter-final against Novak Djokovic.
