how to get his autograph
I'm going to see Gordon Lightfoot tonight in Sudbury ... front row seats. What is the best way to get his autograph? Does he sign after the show somewhere? I have a Lightfoot! album cover in good condition that I would love to frame with his signature.
What will make tonight extra special is that I'll be in the company of several very good friends. My only disappointment is that my wife can't be there. She's helping bring my new born grandaughter to Sick Kids in Toronto for tests.( Both her parents are in their teens and neither has a driver's licence.)
Anyways can't wait to finally see him in concert.

Re: how to get his autograph
If you can find the stage door entrance he may sign after doing a meet and greet with pass holders inside.
I hope all goes well with the baby..Sick Kids is a wonderful hospital.. keep us posted...

Re: how to get his autograph
Good advice from Char, of course, and you might end up like the people waiting at one of the Pennsylvania shows. I guess the meet and greet group was kind of small that night so they came out and invited those people who were waiting to come inside.
Have patience and he will show up,
Bill

Re: how to get his autograph
I will 2nd or 3rd the above advice.
Find the stage door exit and wait - we have even been allowed to stay inside a couple of times even without the after-show passes. I think I've met Gord and the band 13 times.
Don't be loud and obnoxious - the house workers tend to run those people out quickly.
Good luck !!!!! The wait is worth it !!!

Re: how to get his autograph
Well I got the autograph as well as a picture.
I took your good advice as well as the advice of a truck driver and waited by the cars that were going to take the band to the airport.
I have to say I really felt like an ass afterward.... like a wierdo stalker person. There was only me and another couple waiting. I had driven my rowdy friends home and then returned. Someone came out, checked us out and allowed us to meet him in the area in-between the sets of exit doors.
I really felt guilty! I mean the poor guy probably just wanted to get going. He still had to get to the airport and then a flight back home. Meanwhile its freezing cold out, he just played three nights in a row, its near midnight. Then here I am being a pest.
If I was to do this again I would simply pay the extra money for the meet and greet and meet Gordon Lightfoot on his own terms instead of like some physcho stalker.
Still, the feeling of guilt is starting to wane as the day goes on. Probably by the weekend I'll be OK ... sort of.
The concert was everything I hoped it would be. Loved it !! I was really pleased with the set list. A few favorites that he isn't always playing: Christian Island, and Home From The Forest

Re: how to get his autograph
Was there a 'payment' required meet and greet? There usually isn't. A few concerts have a premium charged to the ticket price but not very many. Was the show one of those?
Glad you got to meet hi, get an autograph and a picture !

Re: how to get his autograph
First, congratulations Rick. I was just like yourself when I wen to my first shows.
I didn;t thnk it'd be easy to get an autograph, considering most performers act like its a huge inconvenience to them.
(I know they have schedules to meet but c'mon!...we're the ones who helped get them there buy loving their music & buying it to listen too.)
My first,I didn't get a picture but he di sign the ticket and a concert hall poster. (2002)
Next time in 2007,I got the works, pictures with him,he signed both "SDYS" LP & "Early Lightfoot" and a general autograph as well.
Next 2 showws Oct. 18&19 ,2008 (L.A./Aguora Hils & then San Diego, did the meet & greets for those, with help from fellow Corfidians (getting me to LA and backstage.)
Wonderful to meet and talk too someone famous you admire isn't it?

Re: how to get his autograph
Don't feel so bad Rick C. !!!
I have never, ever seen Gordon be rude to a fan for wanting an autograph / picture.
I have many autographs / pictures at home to prove it. My kids were literally raised on Gordon Lightfoot concerts.
With Gordon aging ( as we all are), count it a priviledge to meet 'The Man'.
I guarantee you Gordon was not inconvenienced by it. If he was, he would never say it or show it. That's just not the Gordon we all know and love.
If you can, post your picture with Gord. We'd love to see it. I need to do the same with mine sometime.

Re: how to get his autograph
Rick,
I felt the same way the first time I got a picture and autograph. I felt like a groupie who was keeping him from leaving. He was kind and gracious, but I felt like a silly fool. I have since found that Gord doesn't seem to mind meeting a few people after the show. Last year in Seattle it was raining and pretty cold and the 6 of us waiting were told Gord would not be signing any autographs. We waited anyway, like the "groupies" we are. When Gord came out the back door, he walked right up to us in the rain and started a conversation with us. He took pictures, signed autographs and shared stories. I imagine it does his heart good to see we all still care! (at least that is what I want to believe!) I am glad you got to meet him.

Re: how to get his autograph
Hello all
The meet and greet was part of an extra package deal available at the time the sold tickets. At the time I think I was unsure if anyone else in my group would really be interested.
Gord was absolutely gracious and friendly. He just looked so tired and worn out and wanting so badly to be home, I really felt like I was being a pest. Still, I'm glad I have the autograph and pic, just not real proud about the way I got it. In hindsight, I would go for the meet and greet ... hopefully next time! And Indeed I am thankful I've meet him given all that he's been through as of late.
I'll try posting the pic via Flickr ...
Regards all
Rick

Hey it worked!, I took photos during the concert but they all suck.
Any fans of Killarney Park or the North Channel check out the rest of the album
