Gord for Christmas
My son got me If You Could Read My Mind, Summer Side of Life and Don Quixote CDs for Christmas. I guess he heard me lamenting about them being out of print and my copies being so overplayed. I thought that was really nice - made my day actually.

Re: Gord for Christmas
You have a very sweet child to do something like that.

Re: Gord for Christmas
Some nice, thoughtful gifts there formlav!
Unusual that I didn't receive any music (no songbooks, CD's, guitar strings) as gifts this Christmas -but my son did give me Collin's GL biography. Which I appreciate the thought even though I don't care for biographies...rarely read them -and rather prefer autobiographies.
I read 1/2 last night and there are some interesting parts. Am pleased that it's not a TMI tell all @Gordon's personal life -so I appreciate the general info in that regard and how Collin's ties it directly to how it relates to GL's work.
But the usual disappointment -I find more frequently in biographies (and one of the main reasons that I don't care for them) is when an author gets their facts wrong . I was really getting into reading @the Mariposa, but then Collin's mistakenly refers to the Newport Folk Fest in "New York State" (it's Newport, RI) and that kinda killed it for me. I did continue reading the book, but will Evelyn Wood through when I pick back up on it.

Re: Gord for Christmas
Thanks, guys. He's been a pain in the you-know-what for the past few years, so something like this makes me feel hopeful.

Re: Gord for Christmas
my wife apparently heard me mumbling in the past year about how I need to get the "Songbook" CD set, because it showed up on X-mas morning. In fact, I'm listening to it right now as I type this. I'm in my late 40's, and didn't start getting into GL's music until the mid-late 70's, so I wasn't all that familiar with his early work, and some of this package is a real treat, especially disc #1. The other thing I appreciate is a lot of the cuts are early recordings, much earlier than I'm used to listening to, with different arrangements and his obviously higher voice. So all in all, a great package of GL's work.

Re: Gord for Christmas
That is cool, just ducky, that your wife got you Songbook for Christmas. I remember when I first got it, I loved listening to all the previously unissued tracks. Stone Cold Sober is my favorite.

Re: Gord for Christmas
I bought my 3 kids ( who have met Gord and the band I think 6 times - poor kids) c.d.'s and dvd's for their 'survival kit'. Kind of a joke that is going to become an annual tradition for Christmas.
I got them 'Gord's Gold' , 'Gord's Gold Vol. 2' , 'East of Midnight' , and 'Shadows'. They already have a few others.
Got Gord's Gold because of the wonderful re-recordings (for songs 1 - 9,if I remember right),
Shadows because there are so many songs they have heard him perform live that are not on the greatest hits c.d.s , and East of Midnight because of Gord's fondness for the album. A direct quote from Gord "It's my best album." He admits it's not his best-selling, but because of his self-producing it.

Re: Gord for Christmas
For the past few years I've shared my concert "finds", such as Montruex 1976, Red Rocks 1975, Filmore East 1968, and the like with my siblings. We all grew up listening to Gord and seeing him at the Auditorium Theater in downtown Chicago (an annual pilgrimage for many years!!). I get the biggest kick out of sharing what I love... I compile the music, clean up the tracks a bit, put together some nice artwork for the CD cover, and presto! the Gift of Gord!
Although I have to admit that I'm the most rabid fan in the pack, I get the biggest kick out of giving!
Merry Christmas everyone! and a blessed new year!
