Canadian legendary singer/songwriter Gordon Lightfoot is the latest to join major stars signing guitars to benefit the Savannah Folk Music Society’s 20th Annual Savannah Folk Music Festival. These beautiful guitars, donated by the Gretsch Foundation, will be auctioned during the Festival, October 9 - 11, 2009. With support of the City of Savannah’s Cultural Affairs Department and funds raised by the auction, the entire Festival is free to the public. This year’s headliner is the great Janis Ian “At Seventeen,“ “Society’s Child”).
So far, other notables signing Gretsch guitars to be auctioned at this year’s Festival include, John Prine, John Sebastian (“The Loving Spoonful”), and Roger McGuinn (The Byrds”). Ms. Ian will be signing one as well.
Savannah Folk Music Society President Hank Weisman secured Mr. Lightfoot’s autograph during last Saturday’s performance at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center (see photo attached).
For more information about the Festival call 912-786-6953 or on the web, go to http://www.savannahfolk.org.

Pretty cool. You know, as Canadians, we perhaps take some "ownership" of Gordon Lightfoot, but I, for one, forget how popular and well-received he is in the States as well. What better venue than a folk festival.....
