Default Acoustic Harvest-Toronto -Rick Fielding Memorial

from Ron Jones:
Rick and Gord worked at Steele's Tavern together with Andy Nichols and others which I can't recall at this time. Gord was mainly the one who was the big draw in those days and he knew that Rick liked his tunes and Rick did some nice versions.

Thank you Char for putting this up.
It most certainly will be an honor for me to be in attendance at what will be a very special show.
Rick Fielding was a very special guy and I feel very lucky that I was his friend.
We had many musical moments and he invited me as a guest on his radio show a few times as well.
Having just gone through a menagerie of unlabeled cassette tapes, one such tape revealed a segment taped in Rick's radio studio one night and with us was talented fiddle player Anne Lindsay who was kind enough to back us up as we did "Cherokee Bend" and "Don Quixote." Anne also was a performer on the recent " Lightfoot Tribute Shows" at Hugh's Room in Toronto.
My son Liam was also there with us and sang harmony as well as one of his own tunes.
That's the kind of guy Rick was. Always very accommodating and loved to play.
We finished the show with "Will the Circle be Unbroken."
Cheers, Ron J.

Just a follow up on this show for the folks who are thinking about attending.

This is gearing up to be quite an event and being familiar with most of the performers there will be some cool instruments of different varieties and folks who know how to play them.

Apart from being blessed with a fine voice, Rick Fielding also was a very versatile musician and the sounds are all there in his recordings

On a recent visit to Toronto my friend Lillian invited me to join her for a "song circle gathering" at the home of Paul Mills, who is on the bill for this event. Paul played lead guitar for the late Stan Rogers.

Needless to say I was quite honored to be there and when my turn came to sing in the circle, my choice of song was. "If You Could Read My Mind" and Paul backed me up on lead guitar.

In the midst of the song the thought of "I'm going to turn into a pumpkin any moment now" kept buzzing around in my head but instead I turned into gold.

That was an experience like no other, believe me.

So Paul and Joanne Crabtree will be performing together at this event as will a host other very talented entertainers.

Lillian has invited me on as a guest performer so I'm hoping to arrange something with my son Liam to help me out in order to keep the butterflies out of the stomach.

Hope to see a few familiar faces and maybe a few new ones as well.

Cheers, RJ.
