Default Daylight Katy?

What inspired Gord to write/sing Daylight Katy? Great song, with a very mystical tune. Lyrics are also somethin' out of this world.

I thought it was written for or about his girlfriend at the time, Cathy Coonley.

Well was CC a seaweed eating vegetarian perhaps
It is a great pity that this is one of the more obvious omissions from Songbook, if it had been included then we would possibly have Gord's own words on what it might be about and/or its provenance. Somehow I don't think he had Katie Holmes in his mind when he wrote it though

This subject always makes me have flashbacks to a 'Rolling Stone' magazine review of "Endless Wire" (which was less than flattering). About "Daylight Katy", the reviewer wrote something like "he may as well be referring to a cat"

Now, I can't shake that imagery.

Memory serves me a little better today, and a looong time ago I think I asked if it was about a cat (because it mentions "she lives nine lives"), but someone told me it was about a whore. Which also makes some sense it you think about it.

I thought it was about one of his daughters.
