Prayer Request
For those who believe in the power of prayer, may I invite you to lift up Gordon Lightfoot in your time of meditation, thanksgiving, supplication and request. I think it is fare to say that virtually every one who posts here, including me, love and admire Gordon Lightfoot in a myriad of ways and are thankful for all that he has added to our lives. You have all proven that through your plethora of posts. So I look foreward to seeing the power of prevailing prayer move on Gordon in a special way.
One thought I have is that we pray for his voice. I recently saw him in Cincinnati and noticed that he was having some vocal problems, especially during the first set. He's been through a lot in his time on planet earth and the last few years he's faced some serious physical ailments as I think you all know. He's 69 and so his age is certainly a factor however I believe in miracles and I'd like to see one for our hero.
In addition, I would suggest that you pray as the Lord leads. I don't know if Gordon knows the Lord (I think he does given many of his song refernces) but that would be a good place to start.
Gordon Lightfoot - Someone To Believe In (from the LP Salute)
Is there someone I can believe in
Is there somewhere I can hide
Take me out of the straits I'm in
Come and stay here by my side
Somebody I can rely on
I broke the law, I've been set free
Give me something to decide upon
Come and show yourself to me
Is there someone sewing seams
Through all my hopes, through all my dreams
You know living a life of ease
Don't make yer meals taste better
If you please
Is there someone I can relate to
Who will break the ice for me
Take me out of the place I'm in
Come and share your life with me
Somebody with nothing to live up to
Who will mend my broken dreams
Give me a wave I can ride upon
Come and show your strength to me
I have felt the final rush
Of love's embrace, the magic touch
Running headlong to attract
I felt the breath of Satan
On my back
Is there someone I can believe in
Is there something I can do
Take me out of the straits I'm in
Let me show myself to you
Somebody to whom I can belong
Take my hand, I've been set free
Give me some wings I can glide upon
Come and show yourself to me
Is there someone sewings seams
Through all my hopes, through all my dreams
You know living a life of ease
Don't make yer meals taste better
If you please
Gordon Lightfoot - Romance (From The LPSalute)
You said you were through with romance
Why take a chance on anyone
You're so beautiful too
I can tell by the way that you dance
They say that people don't change
Why rearrange the original
You do something to me
That my eyes cannot see at a glance
Signs of a new beginning
Signs of a life worth living
The better to forget than to be all that upset
It's the time to taste the wine
And maybe someday things will change
And come with in range and be laughable
Everything is okay
I can tell by the way that you dance
They say that people don't try
That's just a lie, they work miracles
It's a gift from above
When we talk about love and romance
Signs of a new tomorrow
Signs of a life without sorrow
The better to forget than to be all that upset
It's the time to taste the wine
And maybe this time you will be
Romantic like me when I'm with you
And I think you might say
I can tell by the way that you dance
They say that people don't change
Like Home On The Range, it's original
You do something to me
That my eyes cannont see at a glance
You do something to me
When we talk about love and romance

Re: Prayer Request
I think Gord knows the Lord...
After what he went through a few years ago. It's truly a miracle that he is still able to share his wonderful music with us.
But at times he has fallen short, as all of us have.
Gord grew up singing in the church choir, in fact the first recording he made was in elementary school was "The Lord's Prayer."
It's ben stated here that for years He has sung at the Christamas Eve service at a Methodist Church in Toronto. Like all of us, I hope his relationship with God extends to more than holidays.
In so many of Gord's songs there are spritual influences,
"Too Late for Prayin"
"Apology"
"Mr. Rock Of Ages"
"Heaven Help the Devil"
I think Gordon has been blessed by God with his talent and ability, to touch the heart and stir the soul
Sometimes, the lyrics point to questioning God and why things happen which is ok, such as the verse
"for each child with eyes that smile, they'll be ten more crying." "TLF
I don't imagine that Gordon would be opposed to have his fans say a prayer for him.
I know that I sure don't mind people praying for me.
As for God often providing the words to put on paper, I share something that I wrote in just minutes, a few years ago
…DEAR LORD.......
HELP ME LOVE WITHOUT CONDITION
HELP ME TO NOT ONLY HEAR, BUT TO LISTEN
HELP MY KNOWLEDGE GROW INTO WISDOM
HELP ME TO NOT ONLY SEE, BUT TO HAVE VISION
HELP ME TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS
AND TO THINK OF THEM AS SISTERS AND BROTHERS
HELP ME FEEL WITH TRUE, NOT FALSE COMPASSION
HELP ME TO NOT ONLY SAY, BUT TO TAKE ACTION
HELP ME TO SEE YOU IN OTHERS
AND OTHERS TO SEE YOU IN ME
HELP ME TO WAIT FOR THINGS IN THEIR SEASON
HELP ME TO PROCLAIM YOU'RE THE REASON
FOR JOY AND LIFE ITSELF
AND BY BELIEVING IN YOU
WE HAVE NOT EARTHLY, BUT ETERNAL WEALTH
KEVIN D. HESTER
May God Continue to Bless Gordon, and all the members of this group.
Kevin

Re: Prayer Request
I certianly do keep him in thought and prayer, especially back in 2002/'03 and will now as well.
I'll say this about his spirituality, you can't write a song like "Forgive Me Lord" without a sincere connection to the Lord.

Re: Prayer Request
I made a slight mistake....
Gordon grew up in the United Church of Canada ar St. Paul United in Orilla
A union of the Presberytyerians, Methodists, Evangilical Protestants and Local Union Churches.
As for spiritual songs... and influences
The House You Live IN.... almost seems like it came straight from Proverbs

Re: Prayer Request
Here's something I wrote down 2 days ago-

Romancing an eternal view
For a chosen few
Not for those who want to shoot down birds as they fly

Re: Prayer Request
The Man is always on my mind, practically every day. One of the things that I always ask for him is that the All Mighty bless him with a long & happy life.

Re: Prayer Request
I ask that for him too, timetraverer. He is on my mind practically every day too, and so is the All Mighty.

Re: Prayer Request
Especially since Barry Harvey passed away (and since I belatedly found out about Gord's illness - can't believe it, I visit Pittsburgh every year and never realized how close he was!) I've added him and his friends and family (and all my Net people friends) to my prayers. It's truly amazing (and wonderful) to me how the Spirit can be found in music.
Bless you all!
