Re: Homespun Lightfoot Lesson DVD
whilst image googling for "Lightfoot beer" for pix to display in the rare tracks/beer thread I found
http://www.5min.com/Thumper
this page contains some interesting videolinks
to 47 year old "Thumper's" favourite videos including
Using fifths in guitar playing
Get change out of vending machine
Plant your Condom
(sic very sick)
How to get rid of her boyfriend in 6 simple steps
How to slice a mango
Having seen the expert (Robert himself) doing this at hisRobert is Here fruit stand near Miami recently (try our Key Lime milkshake) (heavenly) this could be very interesting
but more importantly and relevantly
http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-score-a-free-beer-1945
How to score a free beer
and tellingly:-
http://www.5min.com/Video/Learn-Gord...s-Sundown-3667
which opens a page that looks very like youtube

but was stuck at 0 for me for ages then suddenly began playing but so far I have seen a 40 odd second silent movie only.
Perhaps one of you blessed with a respectable high speed connection will be able to watch and hear it and report on the experience ???
so what is 5 min???
checking at
http://www.5min.com/
I read:-
"5min is a place to find short video solutions for every practical question and is also a place for people who want to share their knowledge.5min's vision is simple: any solution can be visually explained in 5 minutes. Show us your skills! Join 5min and spread your knowledge"
OK move over CHar and Cathy!!!

You and everybody else. I thought it was an odd selection until I realized that every song is on Gord's Gold!
But, even so, I would have chosen several others.
However, that said, it's an excellent DVD. I have a review of it on my web site: Pete Huttlinger Teaches the Songs of Gordon Lightfoot

Re: Homespun Lightfoot Lesson DVD
Hi Val,
I agree. I couldn't resist and ordered a copy. It's done very well. Still wished he would have chosen some different songs but...Pete explaines everything detailed, with the camera very close. It's definetely enjoyable!

Re: Homespun Lightfoot Lesson DVD
I found out after I wrote the review that Pete couldn't use either Wreck or CRT, as Gord would not give permission for those two. He also doesn't allow the use of his recordings of those songs on "various artists" compilations, so I might have thought of that possibility myself, but did not. But, they are his masterpieces, so I suppose he is entitled to keep them for himself. (You can record the songs on a CD, of course, as mechanical licenses are available without restriction).
That still doesn't explain why Pete didn't choose SFAWN, Sundown or DQ! But it is a marvelous instructional DVD for anyone who want to play Lightfoot, and what you learn from the DVD will help you play other songs that Pete didn't teach.
Did you notice that Pete plays and teaches IYCRMM pretty much the same as our Cathy Cowette? I was waiting to see if he would, and he did, complete with Red's lead solo.
