This is a hard one for me, personally.
The fire, hard up against Fallen Leaf Lake
back even beyond Eagle Falls, burns familiar Earth.
Friends in the area have been evacuated and are OK.
Most Very Thankful
The Spectre of just such a fire has loomed large
for many years in preservation efforts
Somehow . . . just never thought it would Strike
- not over yet -
As before, I add my Prayer tonite, also

Hi, we here in Sacramento have been monitoring the fire and hearing about all the devastation that has occurred. I can't imagine going to back to my house that is nothing but a concrete slab! Heard an interesting discussion that some newscasters in other parts of the country were comparing the reaction of OUR disaster to that of New Orleans. It's all our fault; you shouldn't live in a forest, etc. We're really worried that this is just the START of fire season, too. Another fire started north of the Lake this morning but luckily was quickly contained. Sometimes Mother Nature can be cruel! I witnessed the Yellowstone Fire 15 or so years ago and was flabbergasted, but it was so nice to see flowers already shooting up from the blackened ruins!

Hello, checking in here from Reno,Nevada. South Lake Tahoe is about an hour drive from here. I was saddened to see the devastation on the news. I heard in local radio shows that the locals are furious with the local environmental regulations which prohibit clearing brush around homes; this was meant to reduce erosion into Lake Tahoe, but this was a major forest fire, the flames were "crowning" tree tops, so perhaps making clear space around homes would not have made a difference. Anyway I hope it's over.

Thanks Sheryl and Rick for the local input. The blaze is only touched upon by the media
here in SoCal.
Did see one fella interviewed who figures his home didn't burn only because he defied that brush clearing regulation and went much deeper.
Those Fool-Folk who ascribe fault to where a person lives would have to rule out the entire Eastern Seaboard [hurricanes, ya know] and Tornado Alley [virtually the entire Midwest]
. . . and, of course, California [destined to slip into the Pacific]
Maybe the only safe place to live is w/ Sponge Bob Square Pants
Sounds a bit peculiar, but I also concern for the South Shore Casinos. If not for all those decades of gigs, I never could have come to know The Lake so well and love her so close -
or the friends now in flight.
July 4th is always huge. The Carson Grade could be Downhill Only if things get worse.
I know The Risin' will come - but The Fear is here now. The Faith, too . . .

A friend e-mailed, "What's Playin'" . . . followed by:
"Amid the fears and prayers for our friends too close to the fires and floods, it is sometimes helpful to get lost in The Music for a little while."
----------------
So today, the 2007ChevyImpalaMobleCD/mp3Player has been playin' and re-plain'
a song I needed to hear and re-hear:
"The Rose in June"
. . . couple a versions: Louis Killien and Pete Morton
Then I'd make sure all the windows were *up* . . . rear back . . . [Roger Miller Style]
and let fly all four verses of that old Christian Hymn *Revive Us Again*
. . . integral to *The Rose in June*
To remind myself to laugh in the midst of Faith and Fear, I'd seque into
"Hallelujah! I'm a Bum!" [a song written during The Great Depression . . .
to the tune of *Revive Us Again*]
So . . . What's Playin'?

Thanks for mentioning Roger Miller. Part of my formative years were spent listening to his tunes, as my brother-in-law was a big fan. Goofy tunes interlaced with great ballads. His helping hand up the ladder to the likes of Kristofferson did not go unnoticed.
