Robert Gordon Mustard


VERMILION -- Robert Gordon Mustard, 89, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, at home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 12, 1917, in Scioto County, was raised there and moved to Lorain County in 1947. He lived in Vermilion since 1950.

Mustard was employed at U.S. Steel's Lorain Works for 25 years, retiring as a foreman in 1973. He previously worked for Moody Inspection in Pennsylvania.

He enjoyed making muzzle-loading guns and travel, puzzles and Civil War history. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II at 501st Bomber Squadron Headquarters and received the American-Pacific Service ribbon with two bronze stars.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Creolla Jeanette (nee Howard). He was preceded in death by his sons Steven Mustard in 1967 and Bruce Mustard in 1966; his parents, Robert Q. and Zora (nee Stephenson) Mustard; brothers William and Russell Mustard; and a sister, Mary Mustard.

Friends may call Thursday, 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m., and Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m., at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Gordon Lightfoot, pastor of Batesville Baptist Church, Batesville, Ind., will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.

Memorial contributions may be made to CHP Regional Foundation - New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
