Last night at 9pm on my local FOX news affilite,I heard of the passing of Luther Vandross. Age 54.
I first heard of him 20 years ago in 1985 with the single,"Til My Baby Comes Home". I knew nothing of his career before that but as he had more hits I found out he was a former back-up singer on David Bowie's "Young Americans" LP & same name single.
His biggest sucesses were in the 90s with "Here and Now" and "Power Of Love/Love Power" which I played in tribute this morning. Lastly, just about 2 weeks ago I pulled out an old video-tape to play on my new VCR and there was the final episode of "The Arsenio Hall Show".
In which Vandross comes out on stage and wishes Arsenio good luck,it was his first appearence after losing a great amount of weight. That was May 1994 and it seems like a month ago to me.
Rest in peace Luther, like a lot of famous folk of late, your days were done too soon.
