Excerpt from a recent Reuters news item on MSNBC:
"Having trouble sleeping? Don’t bother with a cup of cocoa or counting sheep — listening to music at bedtime is the best way to get a restful night, Taiwanese researchers have found."
45 minutes' worth of soft, slow music lowered heart and respiratory rates, helping induce restorative sleep.
So what're your recommendations for 45 minutes worth of soothing Lightfoot?
Here's my first pass at a "Lightfoot Prescription" (I know, I know, it's longer than 45 minutes - but why fool with a good thing?) In no particular order:
The Pony Man
Harmony
Beautiful
Always on the Bright Side
Christian Island
Clouds of Loneliness
Tattoo
Why Should I Feel Blue
Fine As Fine Can Be
If You Need Me
I'll Tag Along
Lazy Mornin'
Restless
On the High Seas
Looking at the Rain
Song for a Winter's Night
Whispers of the North
Pussywillows Cat-tails
It's Worth Believin'

Ghost of Cape Horn

My clock radio/alarm has a CD player, normally loaded with GL, but if it took me 45 minutes to fall asleep I'd go see my doctor, LOL.

I keep the CDs handy for those nights when the brain won't shut down and I know I'm not going to get any sleep anyway. I've sent a couple of compilation disks to my sister (the one with chronic pain) as a kind of relaxation therapy. Must work because she rarely gets past the third or fourth song before drifting off.

As long as we don't include the Canadian Railroad Trilogy. That's my least favorite Gord song.

I really can't make a list here because Gord has a lot of nice quiet tunes one can relax and /or drift off to sleep too.
When I want to do so,I just put in Discs 1,2 or 3 from Songbook (4 has more "rock" on it and would keep me awake.)
I also just put in,"IYCRMM" CD or the UA Collection CD's. If I know I'm tired enough to just conk out,I can put on Summertime Dream or Sundown & Old Dan's Records (and maybe Disc 4.)
For the quietest tunes,I'd have to make another special tape. Been me. Later!

These would be just about the perfect lineup.
I only have one problem. Being a terrible
insomniac, I can never go to sleep listening to Gord's songs. They always evoke too many wonderful thoughts and daydreams and memories. I have tried it. Quite conversely, if we should have a radio station on, and a song of Gord's comes on, (if I should get to sleep , I wake up straight-away! It always happens. Maybe stange....but true.

Sentimental,
You're right. And then, the list could go on and on......... Oh wow! Is it just me or does anyone else get the chills just reading the titles???
