I'd Rather Press On 11
Salute (Gotta lot more livin' to do) 4
OK, seems that people prefer the more classic Gord sounding "I'd Rather Press On." I mentioned to my wife just the other day what a great album that "Waiting For You" is. It's got some great tunes. Now, as a famous poem once claimed, "a promise made is a debt unpaid." I promised Chris Castleberry that I would post this next matchup. It's been a long time coming and there was even an "unofficial" vote begun. To clear this up, let's make the matchup official and see what the "Gord Nation" has to say about it. These are two fast paced songs. I've heard some pretty negative comments about both tunes. Some may have to pick the best of two bad choices. However, you're all called on to make a choice. Eager to hear from you. Which do you prefer:
Canary Yellow Canoe
or
The Auctioneer

Oh goody! :D I get to be first!!!
"No contest here, because it's clear that it is The Auctioneer".
(I like the Leroy van Dyke 1950's original too!
"Canary" is okay but it's pretty much a re-working of "Roll Over Beethoven" (Unintentional? Not sure.)

As much as I love Gord... Out of all his albums, there are exactly two songs I cannot STAND. One is Canary Yellow Canoe. The other is Canadian Railroad Trilogy.
I don't think CYC should have ever even seen the light of day.

When I was barely a 13 year old (1972) I bought a Country compilation album for my Dad's birthday out of the money I got for mowing the School principals lawn. The album cost $ 2.99 I am pretty sure!!! One of the tracks which instantly attracted me was "The Auctioneer" .
I only found out 33 years later (2005) via this forum of the Gord connection.

The Auctioneer, by far, although technically it's not a "Gord song".
Jeffyjo, what is your objection to CRT, one of the greatest songs ever written (and I'm not much given to superlatives)?

probably "canary yellow canoe" as its an original lightfoot song! "The auctionneer" is a fun song, but I prefer a version I heard by Gord from the mid-60's on a bootleg. Not an easy song to sing!

I vote for Auctioneer.
Canary Yellow Canoe is dreadful, but even the rare clunker from Gord is still better than 90% of everything else out there!

Borderstone, I never worked upon the railroad specifically, but a navvy is a term for a laborer (especially one engaged in digging navigation canals), and in my time I have spent many an hour digging ditches or holes of one kind or another for pay, so I think I qualify. On the other hand, I never did used to be a country singer. :D

I guess that makes me a "navvy" at the hotel! Besides hosting,we all have to take part in "setting up" tables & chairs and sometimes staging.
On my other hand (??) "I never could keep numbers clear, that is why I am not an auctioneer!" :D
Okay....time for S. #18!!

The Auctioneer.
For the other one-I know the subject matter was near and dear to his heart at the time, but never mine.
Sorry Gord, I could never like that one.

Re: Showdown #17
Auctioneer, even tho it's a cover, for the reasons I stated in the unofficial showdown of these two.
I'll repeat, let's compare covers to covers, and Gord's own to his own.
