I guess a lot happenned there over 38 years while you matured!!
the town is now an urban sprawl a good 2 miles long with many shops, including a quite splendid bakery where we availed ourselves the chance to sample Olallieberry Pie and restaurants plus a loop road (Moonstone Beach Drive) that looks out onto the Pacific Ocean where we stayed at the delightfully named
FogCatcher Inn.

our room was all of 100 feet from a track leading down to the beach

I think I took a similar photo showing a decline to 12 but am blowed if I can find it now
trust the internet
not only is there wiki at:-
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmony,_California
But also a nice history at:-
http://www.harmonyca.com/history.html
Which will inform you that
"A creamery operated in this location from 1869 until mid-1955."
AND moreover
"The post office has operated continuously since 1915."

as for the winery
"The opportunity for Chuck to work as a consultant winemaker enabled him to start making wines under his own label in 1989, and Harmony Cellars was born. From the beginning, it’s been a joint effort for both Chuck and Kim. Chuck produces the wine, and Kim as the business manager, runs the day-to-day operations. They built the winery in 1993 on coastal property that has been in Kim’s family for four generations."
"Chuck was camping in the area in 1981.Eight years later, Harmony Cellars produced 2,000 cases of its first wines in rented winery space. The tasting room was located in the old Creamery building in the town of Harmony in anticipation of the winery being constructed nearby. The first vintages produced in the new winery were in 1993. As of 1996 production was approximately 4,000 cases"
Obviously time you revisited the area
while you are still young enough to enjoy it...and visiting the area
