I know I could Google and find the answer to my question but you guys and gals are so knowledgable, I'd rather hear it from you. I'm a huge fan of his music but I know nothing of his home life. Is he married? Does he have children or grandchildren? Any stories out there regarding his personal life and/or family. Thanks for any info.

Yes, he's technically married to Elizabeth, but he doesn't live with her anymore, I don't think.
In the 60s and early 70s he was married to Brita. Then he lived with Cathy Smith, the lady that ended up giving John Belushi the drugs that killed him. Cocaine, if I remember correctly. She went away for awhile for that. Then he lived with Cathy Coonley for several years, split up with her in the early 80s and married Elizabeth in the late '80s. He has 6 kids... Fred and Ingrid with Brita, Eric with Cathy Coonley, and Meredith and Miles by Elizabeth, plus a son named Galen by a woman who lives in California.
Fred and Ingrid have children, so Gord is indeed a grandpa. I don't know if Galen has children, or not.
Of course there are a lot of stories about him, as there are about any famous person. You can probably find them by going through the archives of this site, some rainy day when you don't have much to do.

But not much info on Gord's family as far as I remember (of course I could be wrong)I would instead say this to our new friends
Jeff and Jennifer.Oops
I damn nearly wrote Jenn and Jeffifer!!
As newcomers you must realise that most questions about Gord have quite likely already been asked and snswered in this forum and all you need to do is find the topic containing the answer. How??
well there are two prime ways to search for info like this on Gord in these forums
1.Google will work because as this site is indexed by google in theory at least every posting in these forums is covered by a google search, so after a few days any new posting should turn up as a result in a google
example search for
"Greetings from Illinois"
brings up 291 results .If you then search within those results for "corfid"
you will get just two results being:-
1 http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=1
Jennifer's entire first topic which of course had that very title
and
2. http://www.corfid.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...i?ubb=pntf;f=1
a listing headed :-
"In the past 10 minutes, 3 people have visited General Discussion:"
which includes in a table at this moment
"3 most popular topics within the past 10 minutes:"
one of which, because I just looked at it twice, was:-
Greetings from Illinois 1 Jennifer July 19, 2006 20:57 32
2. corfid's own search engine linked at the top of most pages
(However I sometimes find that this will fail to find any result for a certain word or expression that I know is here in a topic somewhere because I wrote it myself, do not ask me why that should be so it is beyond me to understand
in this case a thread earlier this year will provide all the answers you seek:-
Topic: Gord's eldest children at:-
http://www.corfid.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...c;f=1;t=000575
(I cheated a bit as I knew/remembered that Gord's son Galen was mentioned so I simply searched corfid for "Galen" and Bob's your uncle so to speak!
John Fowles
I hope that helps.
One further suggestion.if you still have questions reply to that topic and ask.
that topic then gets put at the top of the list
(I could have replied myself to Topic: Gord's eldest children
but thought it better that one of you should try it to prove to yourself that it works)

It's fascinating why people are so interested in the nitty-gritty details of celebreties lives. I know I'm guilty of it. Any ideas ?

[ I thought sites like this were designed for just that.....hence "Discussion". I'm getting more reluctant to posting topics now (not only because of this post). I thought I had found a new home. Recent IM's and emails tell me I'm not in a friendly place. Thats pretty sad......
Thanks again Cathy.
Jeff "Lazy Morning" [/QB][/QUOTE]
Ok, what the heck is going on ? lazymorning is the 4th person I know of to cite PM's, IM's or emails for their disgruntlement with this venue. His posts have always had relevance to Lightfoot. So what would compel him to describe it as unfriendly ?

Perhaps lazymorning took my suggestion to check the bountiful archives as a brush-off. It was certainly not meant as such.
I don't know who is e-mailing him but certainly hope he continues to post and contribute to this forum.

It's like this on just about every discussion board. There are always trolls hanging around to try and stir up some trouble. The best way to handle offensive e-mail is to block it, or if you get threatening e-mail, report it to the sender's ISP.
As for offensive people on this site, don't take it personally. Some people just get off on trying to offend people. The best way to deal with it is to ignore the offending post. If he gets no replies, he will probably start looking for another discussion board to mess with.
Jeff, please stay. And don't worry about posting topics. I'd hate to see this place die like the newsgroup has.

Charlene and Cathy,
Thanks for providing possibilities.
I guess I'm just lucky to never have received any backchannel messages that were offensive. For the life of me, I cannot understand why lazymorning would be targeted. Oh well, I guess I'll just consider myself fortunate, and Let it Ride.

Jeff, if the messages are nasty and unfriendly let Char know. She is the moderator here and if there is anything going on behind the scenes that is offesive she should know about it.
RMD I kind of remember somebody else talking about PM's but don't remember it all, but I agree if there is some subterfuge going on to chase new posters away it should be stopped.
Just my opinion.

I remember a poster from alt.music.guitar.accoustic who started messing with quite a few female members. He had a sarcastic reply to every one of our posts. Eventually, he started sending sexually suggestive e-mails to us. I just saved them all and sent them to his ISP, along with a brief explanation of what had been going on. Soon after, he disappeared, and I got an e-mail from his ISP, explaining that they had discontinued his account. It was a Canadian ISP, if I remember correctly. And nobody has heard a peep from him since.

Well said Cathy and I believe that despite the revised regulations that require even trolls to register before posting, malicious souls will still be at it,
for example and do forgive me member $1403 if I have jumped to an incorrect conclusion but you said

Now I thought hard about what you said and really cannot understand why you would want to say that
Just maybe you are genuinely tired of hearing about Gord's family and marital history, but I do not see otherwise how that response can be construed as having
any relevance to the previous discussion
OK maybe you were just trying to say inelegantly that you were tired of hearing the sing "Lazy Morning", but again that would IMHO be insulting to the keen fan who chose its title as his handle here, and other fans who count ity amongst teir favo(u)rites.
Then I looked hard at your choice of displayed name and again do forgive me if I am wrong but it would appear that you chose it solely to further antagonise our new friend Lazy Morning yes right??
Moreover being curious by nature I checked what you had entered (if anything) as your profile at:-
http://www.corfid.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ul...ile;u=00001419
and was not highly impressed by your declared vulger "occupation"
For the benefit of anybody who has yet to check he likened his job and/or behaviour to one of his bodily orifices
Do explain yourself sir. or go forth and multiply

I will never hear enough, about Gordon Lightfoot's family. Lazy morning, you post all you want. The more I hear about Lightfoot, no matter what the subject, the better it is for me.
But having said that, we all had our share of disbeleives here. At least I did. It's like the old saying, there will always be someone raining on you parade...Jesse.
