One of my early Christmas presents was the 'A Painter Passing Through' album. I just got done listening to it, and it was very nice. I noticed a lot of the songs are like the song 'A Painter Passing Through', they tell how he has lived his life and is settling down, so to speak. 'Drifters' especially. I don't quite understand a lot of the songs on there, but that's alright, because after about a week of listening I probably will.

To fully understand the songs, besides just listening to them, you really would have had to lived and experienced life itself with all of it's ups & downs and or good & bad. I get most of it but not all of it. I need to listen to it more often. Later!

This is the hardest album that I've gotten yet to understand. Great songs on it though.

Cool, DMD. You got WFY and APPT. Do you have all of the 19 original albums now?

What are you having trouble understanding? Maybe you just haven't experienced enough of life's rough spots yet.

"Drifters" and "Much To My Surprise" are my favorites on that CD.

"Waiting For You" is one of my favorite Lightfoot CD's hands down.

DMD, enjoy your youth and be thankful you do not yet fully understand some of Gord's songs. You will in due time. It's inevitable. Igorance is bliss and my nieve youth is long past.

DMD3,

Keep playing it for a few more years, it'll make perfect sense. In the meantime just enjoy it - nice CD no?

I like all the songs on the album, 'Drifters' most of all and 'Red Velvet' least, although I still like it. By the way, I don't get how anyone could not like 'Ringneck Loon'. I've heard some people didn't like it before and I was expecting it to be another 'Canary Yellow Canoe' but was nothing like that song. By the way, what is a Ringneck Loon?

DMD: A ringneck loon is a type of loon with a distinctive white "ring" around its neck. The loon is a diving type of water fowl native to northern regions. It is similar to a duck or a Canada goose, but with a longer neck and it is unique in that it has a very distinctive vocal call that sounds like it is laughing.

hm-m-m-m. Does anyone know whether this song had anything to do with Canada's search for an appropriate song for their national bird? Happened about the same circa this came out? Just curious. Coincidence I suppose.
