How about a musical tribute to Gordon Lightfoot. It would great to have it broadcast on some TV channel. It would be a great way to welcome him back after his recovery time. (I saw where they did something like this for Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), after he came back after years of depression) It would be a great way for the music industry and his fans to show their appreciation for all he has done, and for the great treasure he is. Artists who have recorded GL songs could perform (Peter, Paul, and Mary, Anne Murray, etc.)Special artists and friends could be on it like Bob Dylan, Tony Rice, etc. Gordon could come on at the end and perform a few songs. Some people of influence and money would have to be convinced it is a great idea and move ahead to do it. If any of you know any of these people tell them about this idea. Of course Gord would have to be comfortable with this, and that might take some convincing. So Let Start!! Let me know what you think of this idea. Feel free to add or take away from it. I feel it would be a great way to welcome back Gord, and show him how much we all love, respect, and appreciate him and his great talent.

great idea S.M.I.W. but if you had been reading the Newsgroup (alt.music.lightfoot)you would probably have seen a detailed report of just such a live concert at Hugh's Room in Toronto last January
I believe there will be a series of follow-ups next January which sounds like a very good excuse for another gathering of fans such as we recently enjoyed in Saratoga Springs NY with our very own "LTB" The Lightfoot Tribute Band
A most comprehensive report on the Hugh's Room concert by Char/Charlene of this parish is at:- http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=e...ble.rogers.com
I have a sneaking feeling that Char indicated some possible plans for a broadcast version perhaps she will now comment

Fowlesjohn: Thank you for the information on the tributes that have taken place. I guess I am thinking of something with a much larger audience. I would like the world to know what a treasure Gord is, and to give him attention he deserves. Maybee a prominant cable TV station that can be viewed on both sides of the border and beyond. Anyonone got any more thoughts on this?

I am looking for ideas or insights on how this could be done in a big way! Lets hear from you:
Char, Florian, Borderstone, Auburn Annie, Gwen snyder, TheWatchman, DMD3, and the rest of you!
We have got to make it happen! Make it happen for Gord!

SMIW,
I would think you would need to get Gord's permission first so you need to contact his management. Once you have that permission, you might need to draft out an outline for the show before presenting it to an interested tv production company who would then approach a television outlet.
Who knows, there may be such a one lurking around this site who will 'steal' the idea.
It's a great idea. Run with it!

A serious idea? Well, this along with also wanting him in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame,is a very important,so I would think someone close to Gord, who admires his work and has influence in the business should be contacted. Gordon used to tour with Bob Dylan and since it has been said that they have a mutual admiration for eachother as writers and performers,I don't think Mr. Dylan would hesitate to make either happen. Certainly a man who's in the Hall Of Fame, respescted by his peers and an Oscar(c) Winner should not have much trouble getting assistance. Heck,he may even finance it himself! I know we all would if we could. That's my idea and I think it should be on world wide TV as well. I'm not sure about a venue big enough. Later!

I actually think that Ian Tyson might be a good person to start with, he and Sylvia are credited with getting Gord on the right road to stardom. I doubt there would be much of a problem getting Canadian singers to do this.

I liked Gwen Snyder's hope ("ceremony") to get Gord into the R&R HOF. I feel anything to get Gord the recognition and respect he deserves, would be a great idea. Any more ideas on the "Tribute" idea? The comments have been excellent.
