Toy Guitars
In a recent email thread concerning a proposed GL product range which came my way at one time the subject of toys came up and
young Derek the Zippo kid (kidd) was
foolish enough to say:-
"How about a Fisher-Price Gordon Lightfoot special edition guitar?"
My immediate response was prompted by memory of a clipping that we had saved last year from a Walmart sales flyer showing
a young lad strikingly like our Derek in his younger and less wise days.So I replied as follows:-
"AHEM I do believe young Derek the kid already has one of those!!!So sorry Eccles I just could not resist sending out this
great pic of you when you were a lad"
(Eccles for Americans was one of the pre Monty Python characters in the fabled Goon Show on BBC steam radio. of which I know
Derek is a fan) and I attached this scan of the Walmart advert:-
Yesterday our talented picture manipulator jj followed up by saying to Derek in another email:-
"btw, i was overdue to mess with a pic of yours WITHOUT your authorization whatsoever, as per usual...heh heh, young Derek
sitting on that big stool, reminds me of Lily Tomlin, Laff In " and in turn he attached this picture:-
In between the same person had said in another email
"hey, John and Derek, btw, i was surfing and found out that the Chinese already beat us to the idea...can't believe that GL
quietly even endorsed it, agh"
and jj attached this interesting picture of the web page he had presumably found:-
I just thought everybody here would enjoy seeing these again

Gord must be so proud to have such a beautiful guitar with his name on it.
A friend at work bought one of the $30 kids' gutiar at Wal-Mart. It's aqua blue with colorful pink, orange and yellow flowers on it. I think Derek would prefer one of those.

Did you put some pretty, shiny decals on your air guitar, Char?

OK jj
there seems to have been a temporary blip in the service provided by http://freewebtown.com yesterday as the site could not be accessed . they had previously sghut down their uploading facility for a few days whilst upgrading some equipment but presumably somethiong went wrong. That is the trouble with free sites they are known to be somewhat unreliable but
http://freewebtown.com otherwise seems on the face of it fantastic A whopping ONE
1 gigabite of free space no obvious advertising intrusion just a small and varying banner at the top of each page.
They claim that instead of the easy to use built in file manager you can uplosd using your browser or one of the FTP programmes but so far I have not yet got to work and an unstated but possibly 10 MB file upload limit
(I have experimented by trying to upload progessively larger files and so far have succeeded with uploading files of almost 4MB so far and still trying larger ones. Watch this space!!!

Whilst google image searching for GL pix I rediscovered this old topic that might cause a few more giggles so I am now replying to resurrect it .
Please note that originally the topic was at:-
http://www.corfid.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/002860.html
so I subtly updated the URL to comply with the revised URL format that Florian introduced last year (in order to bring the topic up in a format that I could then reply to , if you try to reply to that older URL you are told that you are "lost"
I also noted that the original Walmart advert scan was appearing very small so I have now relinked to the full sized scan that I have now uploaded to my own site for posterity
or at least Derek's Posterior

Come out of hiding Jimmy Jones you are missed!!!

I had never seen them Sir John, but they are good, the one where Lightfoot holds the toy guitar is my favourite. Good work as usual my friend...

I had a toy plastic guitar as a child. I wish I still had it. Yes, this dates me, so what's new. The sound was pretty bad, but what do you expect for a plastic guitar with plastic strings?

A friend of mine has two late '40s or early '50s plastic Gene Autry guitars. They're probably worth something.
