From the Tallahassee Democrat March 8, 2003 (http://www.tallahassee.com/mld/democ...al/5344285.htm)

Man arrested on crack cocaine charges:

Leon County sheriff's deputies arrested Gordon Lightfoot on drug charges in an early morning raid. Sgt. Ed Cook said the 26-year-old Lightfoot sold crack cocaine to an informant from his home in the 6200 block of Greenon Lane. Deputies and Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents searched the home and found 32 grams of crack, with a street value of about $3,200, as well as equipment for cooking powder cocaine into crack and a 9 mm pistol, Cook said. Lightfoot was not home at the time, but deputies found him at a friend's apartment on Old Bainbridge Road. He is charged with trafficking cocaine, with other charges pending, according to Cook. Lightfoot is not the same person as the Canadian singer-songwriter known for his hits "Sundown," "Carefree Highway" and "Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald."

I always knew that Lightfoot guy was dirty.
My whole opinion has changed. I didn't think
he was talented enough to sing and perform
hit after hit the first time I saw his picture. I can't believe we all fell for such a scam.

YES!!! I'm kidding!!!!

I'm a long way from home
'Cause I stole my loved ones blind
In the early morning rain
I'm going to jail

How about:

I would rather be at the boathouse,
with a flagon or two,
instead I'm going to the jailhouse,
For all the wrong that I do.

I'm searching through the shadows
I need to ease my pain.
The cops took all my crack away
It's driving me insane.

In the early morning rain
I wait inside this jail.
I wish the real Gordon Lightfoot
Would come and pay my bail.

That Canadian and I share a name
We are brothers of this land.
Except I'm some dumb crack dealer
and he's the leader of the band.

So don't confuse the two of us
We are no where near the same.
I'm a no good crack dealer from the swamp
Who couldn't live up to my name.

Triangle-Triangle,watch the bag dangle.
The cops came and took me away!
Doin' hard time but the fault is not mine,I went bad 'cause my parents named me this way!
It's-a mighty hard way to go down, the only bad GL in town!
Takin' a long trip, after being searched and stripped!
No,I can't sign your autograph now!

(Song:Triangle. In case no one got that.)

Borderstone outta here and A.B. !

Borderstone, We need to write music together.
We could be the next great songwriters of our lifetimes. I need a new career anyway.

One bag of Crack so what's the big deal
Small windows a toilet and bed here I go

The legend lives on from the crack house on down,
Of the bad drug they call "This'll do me".
The crack it is said, It will soon make me dead
And the high, it will make me feel "whirlley"!

Ya know other than John Valby doing a sick parody of Sundown and Burton Cummings doing Gord Lightfoot, no one has bothered to parody one of Gord's songs. Not even Weird Al has touched any of his songs.

For that matter I'd be afraid to for fear I risk the rath of Gord

It was in extremely poor taste, so I'm not repeating what they sang, but Bob and Tom of radio fame did a brief parody of "If You Could Read My Mind" when Gord was in the hospital.

Also, Daniel Pinkwater (kids' science fiction author) parodied the title and subject matter of The Wreck in one of his kiddie novels, but he didn't write any lyrics. I'll look it up as soon as I get an opportunity.

I guess we shouldn't be surprised that younger DJ's would be so insensitive and sophmor-on-ic. Howard Stern once said some very hurtful things about the drummer Eric Carr of KISS when he died of cancer. Gene Simmons wanted to kick his you-know-what.
