Does anyone here remember John Stewart (sang with the Kingston Trio for a while)? He was under contract with Reprise at the same time GL was. I really like his music and wonder what has become of him. Does anyone out there know?

Hey Liz! I just checked a John Stewart Website (I think just about all artists have one now) and he most recently released a CD called "Havana" in 2003. All new studio material.
In 2001 he released a "best of" CD simply titled "John Stewart:Gold". There was also a CD put out of his folk years but I forgot the title! Sorry!
I know he's up there in his early 60's by now or else late 50's. Just like Gordon,he's still recording. I remember his hit "Gold" very well from back in 1978/9 and have it on a "dance music" cassette. Love Stevie Nicks back up! Later!

Thanks Borderstone, I will check out his web site right now. I'm glad he is still recording. He must be in his mid -sixties by now. I love it that all these 60's guys ae still going strong - I admit being a bit (very) tired of the Stones but other than them, it's good to know that the other's have an audience,

Borderstone - Do you have url for the Stewart web site? What I got was a lot of junk when I searched. It is clear that at some point he and Lindsay Buckingham (and Stevie) became musical friends. Thanks for any help you can provide on the url,

There is a John Stewart email list. I'm told Stewart posts on it periodically. Can't remember the URL but I believe I found it off the californiabloodlines URL. I still have that one on vinyl. Love it.

Hey Liz,I'm sorry but i didn't pay attention to the URL but what i did to get the infor was to go to Google and put in either John Stewart "Gold" or John Stewart Discography.
Depending on which one it was it was like the 2nd,3rd or 4th selection down the list.
Ain't I just so....."Technical?"

Thanks all for the replies and great urls. This will keep me busy for a while. Glad there are other John Stewart fans on this board. He and GL have a lot in common musically.
Borderstone - it's okay. You can blush now and all will forgiven.

John Stewart is not only recording, but he is still actively touring. He does mostly small venues and house concerts these days, but I've seen him twice in the last couple of years at one of our local house concert series' and he's slated to be there again in June.
John's web site is at http://www.chillywinds.com/home.shtml
At least that is the web site listed in the schedule at this venue.

John Stewart just played in Los Angeles last weekend, and is busy this week working on a new studio album in LA. He wrote lots of new songs after he suffered a concussion last year. He has an upcoming spring East Coast (US) tour scheduled and will be back in CA in the summer. His fans (in the email world) are called Bloodliners and the email list was just discussing Gordon Lightfoot's music last month. The Jimmy Duke house concerts her plays in San Diego County each year are recorded and the CD are for sale. They show his current musical skills and include many of his songs that other people made hits, such as Roseanne Cash, the Monkees and others. He also did the folk album, "Darwins Army" with Dave Crossland. Each summer for the last six or seven years Stewart has sponsored a "Trio Fantasy Camp" where people could 'become' a member of the Kingston Trio and play a song with Nick Renolds and John Stewart. Bob Shane was also there for the last two summers. It is quite an event with the fans coming to watch the shows and and it becomes a festival weekend for those involved. Stewart usually sponsors a special songwriters workshop or retrospective or other activites for those who come as Campers and get to play with him. He hangs out with the fans and Bloodliners that weekend. He is quite friendly and enjoys talking with his fans.

Thanks Janice- Would you happen to know how Buffy is doing? Do you know how JS got a concussion? I know -too many questions but I heard that Buffy was not doing well and I am concerned for both of them.

Rhea, thanks for stopping by with the scoop. Dark-Thirty Productions (Jimmy Duke's house concert series) is the one I was speaking of in my earlier post, where I've seen John Stewart twice.

Elizabeth, I really don't follow his career or life's happenings. I went to see him at the house concert because I knew his name and some of his songs and I frequently go to house concerts in order to support the concept of such and keep them alive.
Maybe Rhea will drop back in and will, no doubt, know the answer to your questions.
~oops! edited for a typo~

Hey Elizabeth, I have no problem with questions - just wish I knew the answers for you. Always feel free to ask, the worst that can happen is that no one can answer them and the best is that you get lucky and someone knows

Hi Elizabeth,
Huge John Stewart fan, he put out some incredible albums in the early 70's, if you can find it check out "California Bloodlines" and "Cannons in the Rain" , just a great songwriter. Take Care
