I found a review of his Ft. Worth concert on line at the "Ft. Worth Star Telegram." The gist of the article was that it was a "pleasant" concert, that he looked frail, and he hadn't had a hit in 30 years but he's got a base of fans.

Does anybody know how he's doing healthwise right now? The pic they took for that concert made him look 88, not 68, but you can take pics and make them look any way you want nowadays.

Is Elizabeth back with him to kinda give a little TLC? I hope so! Sorry if this is too personal.

the pics aren't doctored-he looks like he looks..he didn't seem to have his hair slicked back..more wispy and carefree looking!

He looks like that all right but up close he doesn't look so much frail an wiry. I suspect that he runs or at very least walks a lot which would be in keeping with the "gym rat" life he took up years ago. It's why he's still around and kickin'.

Back when he was here in Jersey someone commented to him afterward about the age. His reply was "Bop til you drop. Well, I did drop a few years ago but I got back up."

re: he hadn't had a hit in 30 years..

..a "hit"..
who cares..
this culture's obsessed with COUNTING things..
ever notice that?..
Every Monday morning they report on which movie was the big box office "winner" over the weekend etc..
big deal.. (it's almost always a lousy movie too; don't bet on the modern American programmed consumer masses to tell ya what's any good folks)..

May Gord, nor Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young (or any the rest'a my heroes for that matter).. ever have another "hit"..

etc..

After sending a few hours over the 3 nights in Texas visiting with "The Men", I can tell you all honestly that Gordon Lightfoot looks and "feels" wonderful. I think the humidity was hard for us all to take. Gordon, Barry Harvey and all the guys in the orchestra look very healthy. :D Anyone who can go see a concert should do so. You will get such a special feeling and see with your own eyes how good they all look and hear how good they sound. :D

Blessings,
Rose

HA! When I lived in Illinois, we used to go to Ft. Worth and think it was so dry! Houston is humid, though, gotta admit.

So glad to hear he looks better than his pics. Thanks for the info, DSR!

Gordon told me (after the Ft Worth concert) that he works out every day (weights and cardio), but that he can't run anymore since the aneurysm.

Well said, I also hate being told what I should be listening to or watch, or made to feel as if I'm missing something if I'm not taking in the biggest "hit" of the day. As you said, the stuff at the top of the charts usually ISN'T the best material artistically.

[/QUOTE]Yeah, I had heard that is the reason you aren't going to hear things like "Race Among the Ruins" that have long phrases in them anymore. His comment was something along the lines of when they took him apart and put him back together that the lungs didn't have the room anymore. That part is sad but the fact that he could recover from it to the point where he can tour is remarkable.

I better be in such shape as he is as 68. Like he does now I'll have teenagers around the house at that age.

I haven't heard much about whether Gord is composing in his spare time. For our sake, I hope he is. But regardless, I've heard it said about him that he has always had a unique ability to produce works that are simple yet beautiful, personal without being trite, rowdy without being run-of-the-mill, and patriotic without being corny.
Gord has certainly given more to this world than he has taken ... and we are all the better for it.

Tim,

Have you read Charlene's phone interview with Lightfoot ? I believe she posted it on the Newsgroup as well. But things do get buried. If not, here is a link to the topic :

http://www.corfid.com/ubb/ultimatebb...004454#000036]

He addresses the songwriting in it.

Thanks much, yes I remember reading it now. Char's interview with Gord provided us all with a great glimpse into The Man's personal life. I accept his decision about not to devote time to composing any more. His already vast body of work is a great gift to all of us.
