Can someone help me with the following request. G.L. recorded a song as a tribute to the ironworkers who were killed while building the 2nd Narrows Bridge in Vancouver. I am looking for the title of that song for a friend who is an iron worker.

nothing is coming to mind in regards to this topic. do you have any lyrics or time frame when it may have been written. was it a tribute song or was there just a mention of the bridge in a song?

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I do not have any additional info. It was my friend's wife who asked me about this song and since I had not heard of it before, I thought I would check elsewhere. It's entirely possible she is mistaken about the artist, but it was worth a try........thanks again.

If the Narrows Bridge is a railroad trestle, perhaps Canadian Railroad Trilogy is, in part, a tribute to ironworkers who died laying those rails??? Or perhaps I don't know what I'm talking about. I'm not from Canada and I never worked on a railroad.

Does any one know if this is the bridge from Stanley Park, with the Lions Statues, ( is it called the Lions Gate Bridge ?? ).

This must be the song. Thank you for your interest. For your info, this is not the bridge from Stanley Park. That bridge is named The Lions Gate Bridge. The bridge referred to in the song was originally named the 2nd Narrows Bridge but has now been renamed to the "The Ironworkers Memorial Bridge".

Lions Gate Bridge, thats right, thankyou for that Brad, I remember statues of Lions on each abutment.
Its right near the most beautiful Cricket Ground in the world, not something Vancouver is normally famous for.

When I first read this post, I was intrigued. I tapped 'Stompin' Tom Connors' into a search engine and read up as much info as I could find. I determined to find out more about this man. On a recent trip to Ontario, I trawled the music shops and got hold of 2 CDs "Stompin' Tom Sings Canadian History" & "Bud The Spud" I also managed to grab a book by this man "Stompin'Tom and The Connors Tone". I am impressed. Thank you for bringing this guy to my attention.
PS I also laid in "Shadows" & "Salute". Now my Gordon collection is complete.
I just hope that the lack of information we are getting is not so bad as some of us feel. There is an old adage "No news, is goodnews" I hope that is so.
