I was first introduced to the work of Gordon Lightfoot in 1968. My older brother had just completed a years teaching in Toronto and came back raving about this young Canadian singer. I was hooked immediately! Over the past 35 years I have collected GL's albums and now CD's. I have 20 plus the Songbook box set.I still look out for the more obscure compilation CD's.
Incidently, I have a friend living in Kitchener, Ontario and he has recently introduced me to two more Canadian singers, Stan Rogers, who tragically died at a youn age and Garnet Rogers, his younger brother. The both produce phenominal work with very distinctive voices, ( I am listening to Garnet as I write this! )
I apologise for this rather long and rambling message, but I love GL's work and wish him a speedy recovery. When is he going to do concerts in the United Kingdom??

Great taste in music, Steve. I've been a Gord fan for a long time. A few years ago, a friend sent me a bunch of Stan Rogers CDs and he's now running a close second to Gord. Garnet is great, too. I particularly enjoy his fiddling.
Welcome to the group.

Hi ya Steve! Borderstone here. Welcome aboard. As one who ran all over Phoenix looking for each and every GL LP I could find,I know how you feel.

Until last year in 2002,I had only known the "hits"! After seeing a live show here in Phoenix,I had to find out more! I do believe this yera is his total 40th anni. in the whole recording biz. Well, here's to his new CD hopefully receivinga 4 star review! Later!

Great to hear from long-time GL fans--I met Gordon in front of the Troubador in LA in 1967. He was standing out there between sets, just talking with everyone. There were about 10 die-hard fans I still know---We kept in contact the next 35 years by standing up between sets at different GL concerts and looking for each other.

Thanks to all of you who have replied to my original message. If any of you are interested in Irish music, both traditional and contemporary, have a look for Christy Moore. He has a great voice and sings a wide range of songs. He has become something of a champion of the underdog, worldwide, and sings with total involvement in his music.

Another singer that you all may like is David McWilliams. He was from Belfast N. Ireland and, sadly, died at the beginning of 2002. If you have heard the song "Days of Pearly Spencer" that is David's most well known song. His CD's are available from Amazon, ( no, I am not getting commission, LOL )

Just wanted to echo Steve's rec of Christy Moore. My brother turned me onto his music about 4 years ago and I've enjoyed it very much. If you are a Gord fan, I can almost assure you that you'll like Christy too! Now, back to my chord progressions.
