"Salute!" (Hee Haw quote :D .)
"Back Here On Earth" is good too,but it feels like the UA sound he had was getting thin. Not on Bitter Green or If I Could & a couple others.
Salute just has better songs overall.
Besides, isn't this sort of like comparing early Sinatra with later Sinatra? Kindof an apples 7 oranges thing,I feel.

Back Here on Earth.
I always felt that Salute was a rather desperate attempt by GL to get his songs back on the radio. His two previous albums, Dream Street Rose and Shadows, despite being brilliant albums, did not sell well nor receive much radio airplay. By 1983 folk music was considered passe and had disappeared from Top 40 radio stations. Salute was an attempt by GL to become more mainstream, or as he likes to say, "adult contemporary." I understand that GL does not like to be referred to as a "folkie" but let's be honest, the man is a folksinger! And the best one ever, IMHO...

"Back Here On Earth". That album is what good folk music should sound like. Two guitars, 6 & 12 string, and a Bass. JJ

Back Here On Earth
(even though Salute does have one of my very favorite songs on it)

Welcome buckit - good to have you here! I'm sure you have a lot of company who will agree with you regarding Summertime Dream, however this thread is comparing the albums Back Here On Earth and Salute. Which of these two would you pick?

Oops, my bad... I kind of glossed over that last sentence in the first post I'm going to have to punt this one since I'm not familiar with Salute. I'll see if I can find the CD at one of the local libraries here so I can render a fair judgement.
BTW, I've been a lurker here at the forums for a few months and finally decided to take the plunge yesterday and join up. I've had a great time reading through all of the postings in this forum (I started at the very beginning and worked my way up to the most recent posts), and have learned far more about Mr. Lightfoot in these few months than I had learned in all of the previous years of being a fan of his.
Janice, thanks for the welcome, and I look forward to being an active (and hopefully more detail oriented) poster.
JH (ex-lurker)
