Jann Arden mentions something about GL on her online journal...

"LIVE 8 was incredible. I actually got to stand there and speak to Gordon Lightfoot. He pulled on his cigarette, looked me in the eye and we had a conversation. You always have "a moment" at these concerts and for me that was it. He is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. The only other Canadian, in my opinion, that even comes close is – well there are two – Ron Sexsmith and Rufus Wainwright. (Joni Mitchell ain't bad and that Leonard guy from Montreal has had a few glorious moments as well.)"

Don't know a lot of Rufus songs but I have to agree with her about Gord and Ron!
She's darn good herself! I always enjoy a Jann Arden song and her quick wit.

Our man is still smoking ? Well if he can't run anymore it usually helps keep those extra pounds off. (I've tried both methods btw and I've decided running works better). It's great to hear he's everywhere these days eh?

Although I keep thinking, he sure could use some extra pounds!

Yeah, I was dismayed to read about the continued smoking - can't help his "wind" any - but it's a tough habit to kick, if he even wants to do so. Do I wish he'd quit? Yes. Do I expect he gives a rat's ass what I think? No. All we can do is be thankful for the fact he's still with us.

I'm surprised his doctor's haven't given him the Riot Act considering what he just went through... my own dad went through an aneursym 2 years ago himself, bloody near did him in too, hasn't stopped him from smoking again...

Smoking, they say, is more addictive than cocain (sic) or herion (sic?). But I think we all wish he would quit and yes, put on a few pounds. Why is that so hard for some people to gain weight and sooooooooo easy for me??

On weight -- when I was a young 'un, I could pretty much hold my breath and drop off the extra poundage from Christmas or vacations. These days a cup of tea makes me look pregnant.

On smoking -- Pity, but I too used to drink and smoke too much. I finally quit it all for keeps because I reached a point where I truly WANTED to stop and be healthy again. No wishful thinking or resolution or doc's orders. I did it when I was ready in my heart.

On Ron Sexsmith. He used to live next door to my best friend in Toronto. I knew Ron when he was building tremendous respect within Canadian music circles, but he hadn't attained that popluarity thingy yet. Kind, very shy, polite, humble, and an all round good neighbour. Yes, he's also a great musician, but I would support him on principle alone. He's one of the nice guys who truly deserves his good fortune.

Holy cow - - I didn't realize he was smoking again. Anyway, did he quit for some time, only to have his smoking cravings resurface? Oh no...
