what do you all think of his performance on this. he didn't do many tv performances around that time but managed to put on a great 50 min set, even though he was nevous as he said

I just remember he was sweating alot and was qite heavy. By '83 he had slimmed down quite a bit.

I think that is one of the best performances that I have on video of him. I love his voice during that period. He should get an award for making the most funniest faces while singing during that concert.

Are these home recordings or actually available somewhere? Also,if he was heavy set then,that might explain the somewhat unusual cover picture on,"Dream Street Rose",wouldn't it? Later!

he wasn't really "heavy" then. that was into the early 80s.

as for funny faces - YES! during the intro top Don Quixite, the amera zooms into to his faces and he gets the weird square shape, where his jaw drops.

cotton jenny also has some weird looks. the nods in the first verse and the sly smile he gives from time to time.

i also love the bitn where he takes the flowers from the person in the audience and drinks it down

Or when he looks at Terry and says "Arrrrrre ya ready?" Gord reminds me of Meathead from "All In The Family" during certain parts of that concert.

Although there was apparently no official commercial release of this great concert somebody must have taped it because I know that a number of people have a copy and note that copy here is the operative word.Also bear in mind that 1979 was long before VCRs became generally available at reasonable prices. Indeed I bought my very first machine in 1982 when Sony UK to clear stocks reduced the price of their excellent C5 PAL Betamax VCR to a shade under my top budget price of £300 that must be neareer $3000 in today's inflated currency values. That VCR I brought here from England in 2000 together with a pair of PAL VHS machines and a 10 inch PAL Colo(u)r monitor I then acquired a very neat digital NTSC (Never Twice Same Colo(u)r)to PAL and vice versa converter but alas like so many of my hitherto reliable Sony toys the C5 has now gone to that great playbackground in the sky. But I digress.The point is the Soundstage recording was probably not that great to start with and after multilple copying I believe most copies are not that good, although Char said her copy is pretty good. Interestingly somebody (possibly in Japan) spent time making it into a DVD plus an audio CD and
this frequently comes up for auction on ebay from a variety of mainly Californian sellers

I further understand from a few who have shelled out for this that it may well be a digilization of the aforementioned less-than-perfect videotape but it sure has an authentic and interesting looking DVD

I believe that is from an album who's title escapes me. It was one of the compilation albums, like Best of or something like that. I have a copy kicking around here somewhere, I'll see if I can actually find it.

I have the UK issue of another compilation that I bought in 1976 which sports the title EMR this was issued on the Sunset label (a "division of UA") and has the same artwork and funnily enough one is currently on ebay UK at:-

I can't put my finger or mouse on a jpeg Jenney but I think it is indeed one of the three "best of GL" albums regurgitated by United Artists in the US

That's odd. That picture on the left,on my copy the title of the LP is simply "The Very Best Of Gordon Lightfoot". (A re-release of "Classic Lightfoot:The Very Best of II" I got mine last year. Cool painting!

As with many pirated things the info on the back cover is incorrect. Anyone from Chicago knows the special was shot at the WTTW studios and not the Aragon Ballroom. Truth, accuracy and intelligence are not exactly strengths among bootleggers...

Yeah, but that's not so very close, Jove! This one gets a lot closer: www.pbs.org/wttw/soundstage/
but it is only for the "new" Soundstage series and doesn't have any info on the old show. Somewhere PBS, or WTTW, certainly must have the original series (1974-1985) tapes in a vault just waiting to be re-released on DVD. Seems to me that would be a money-maker!
