Vegas show, Friday, April 29th....

We were at the Friday show at The Orleans (saw Big Blue, aka Rick Haynes at one of the bars there earlier in the day). Met up with 'Old Dan' and his wife Gail right before the show at the front of stage left. It was a very quiet, respectful audience. Gord was loose, relaxed, chatty; he was having a good time. There were a couple of scratchy moments here and there, like he had a bit of a bug, but warmed up as the show rolled on. Surprising, they played several songs from the new CD: Clouds of Lonliness, Couchiching, Inspiration Lady (he said it was only the second time they'd played it live. His ex-wife was in the audience the first time they did and it didn't go so well), and of course Harmony. Most of the standards got played. Cotton Jenny and Bitter Green were nice surprises. No CRT. They played 3 or 4 encore songs, one being On the High Seas, which was a wonderful treat. After each encore song, Terry looked like he was trying to put the guitar down to leave, but Gord would launch into another song....after the concert was over, we figured we'd wait around to see if we could meet Gord. There were about 30 people hanging around. After about 20 minutes they flushed most of us out (DU-OH! we didn't have a pass). I asked the security dude if we could get a CD cover signed and was told, "He's not signing tonight!"...it looked like a bit of a bummer end to the evening. Old Dan and his wife got back stage passes ahead of time from Barry Harvey and were able to stay. Old Dan volunteered to bring our CD back with him, but we figured we had a few things at home already signed so we skipped it. Wandered around gambling in the Casino after the show. Lo and behold, there's Gord and the band just hanging out talking to a few fans at the Crawfish Bar outside the showroom. Got to meet him, shake his hand and say, "Thanks for all the great music, we're with you all the way." He looks at me and says 'Why, thank you' in such an engaging way, almost like he was surprised we'd bother ourselves worrying about HIM, ha ha! Luckily, Old Dan and Gail were there again. They totally saved the day with their digital camera and a sharpie pen. We went out for a bite with them afterwards; talked Lightfoot, Las Vegas, Colorado, some politics...great folks, a wonderful evening...Big Blue was still at the bar when we finally went back to our room....saw Barry Keane and Mike the next morning at breakfast, and Barry Harvey cruising the slot machines Sunday AM. They really made themselves at home there.

Nice review Seahawk. Meeting Gord is an experience, one never forgets. He's so humble, as are all the boys in the band. I don't think there is anything ike them, anywhere.

Sounds like another magical time.

Last thing I remember reading (a couple of years ago, one of his first interviews post-illness) was that he was separated from his wife, not divorced, that they were keeping separate domiciles, and that was all he was going to say.

I'm delighted that Gord sang several songs from his top notch CD Harmony. Hope he does the same at Massey Hall.
